The Patriarch of Alexandria in Nea Kios Argolis on Sunday, September 6translated

September 2, 2026 · 1 min read

A historic event is about to be experienced in the area of Nea Kios in Argolis next Sunday, September 6, 2026, as the Holy Church of Agia Irini will welcome His Beatitude the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria, Mr. Theodore II. Specifically, at 7:00 in the morning, the Orthros will be celebrated and then the Divine Liturgy, during which His Beatitude the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria, Mr. Theodoros II will co-celebrate with the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Argolis, Mr. Nektarios.

After the end of the Divine Liturgy, a Holy Memorial Service will be held for the repose of those martyred during the Asia Minor Disaster of 1922.

The presence of the Patriarch of Alexandria in Nea Kios, a place with a strong refugee historical memory, gives special symbolism to the day. The parish invites the faithful to participate in the Divine Liturgy and to honor with their prayer the memory of the victims of the Asia Minor Disaster, receiving at the same time the paternal blessing of His Beatitude.

It's good that Patriarch Theodore II is coming to Saint Irina from New Kios. I like that after the Holy Liturgy they do parastas exactly for the martyrs of the Micrasian Catastrophe of 1922, it fits with the history of the place full of refugees. It will be a difficult day, God willing, many people will come.

Yes, I agree with you, Miguel, that memorial after the Liturgy gives a very strong touch to the event, especially in a town full of families who arrived fleeing the 22nd. I will try to go from Mexico even if it is for a few days, because seeing Patriarch Theodore II in a place like this must be something special. Do you think there will be many people from other nearby parishes?

Yes, that parastas after the Liturgy seems appropriate to me, especially since the New Kios is full of families from Asia Minor. I'll try to get there in the morning, maybe I'll see you there at Saint Irina. Do you think many will come from Argolis?

Yes, that parastas after the Liturgy fits perfectly with the history of the refugees in Noua Kios. I will come from Cluj by car to get there, I hope the road will not be too crowded on Sunday morning. Do you think they will also bring relics or some icon from Alexandria?
