In critical parishes, the Metropolitan of Didymoteicho:translated

August 9, 2026 · 1 min read

Continuing his summer pilgrimage, the Reverend Metropolitan of Didymoteicho, Orestia and Soufli, Mr. Damascinos, on the eve of the Transfiguration of the Savior and the eve of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, visited parishes of our rural province in Northern and Central Evros. On Saturday, the 8th of August this year, His Eminence officiated at the Holy Parish Church of Panmegisto Taxiarhon in Petrotas, in the former Municipality of Trigonos, on the Greek-Bulgarian border, in memory of the New Martyr Agios Triantaphyllos, who was martyred in the year 1680 in Constantinople, flanked by Archim. Anthimos Regidis, a cleric of the Holy Metropolis of Alexandroupolis, who draws his origin from Petrota, the High Priest Commissioner of Trigonou Fr. An. Defeloudis and the parish vicar Fr. The service for St. Triantafyllos at the border church in Petrota sounds special, especially with the priest celebrating his name day right there. Nice that the summer visitors from Stuttgart and Alexandroupoli made it back to fill the pews with the few locals. Did the bishop stay for a meal with everybody after?

Yeah, the name-day coincidence with Fr. Triantafyllos made it feel extra personal. The bishop did stay for a simple meal afterwards — lamb, some salads from the garden, and plenty of stories from the Stuttgart crowd. You ever been up to that border area yourself?

It is clear that the service in Petrovta was beautiful, especially with priest Tryfon who was celebrating his name day right then. I personally remember a similar holiday here in Tetovo when relatives from abroad came and the church was filled with famous faces. Did they roast the lamb after the liturgy on the grill or in the oven?
