Daniel Bulgaris: "The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a celebration of faith, hope and unwavering prayer"translated

September 8, 2026 · 1 min read

"The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a celebration of faith, hope and unwavering prayer to God." This is what the Patriarch of Bulgaria said. Daniel coming this morning to the Holy Church of Genesis of Theotokos in Sofia, in the area of Filipovtsi, where he presided over the solemn Divine Liturgy.  Patriarch Daniel recalled that the parents of the Virgin Mary – the righteous Joachim and Anna – were of an advanced age when the Lord blessed them with a child. For a long time they endured the reproaches of their fellow citizens for their childless lives, which at that time was considered a sign of a lack of God's blessing. "But after such a pure life, faith and charity, their faith and trust in God did not diminish," said the Patriarch. Daniel.

According to him, there was no murmuring or despair in their hearts, but on the contrary, even in their advanced age they maintained faith and hope that the Lord would grant them a child. "Therefore, today's feast of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos is a feast of faith, trust in God, hope, unwavering prayer to God," declared the Patriarch of Bulgaria.

Joachim and Anna teach us a lot. Even after so many years without children and with ridicule from others, they did not complain or despair, but continued to pray with faith. This holiday makes me think about my patience when things don't work out quickly.
