Faithful fulfilled their annual wish to Panagia Michaniotissa in Loutra Edipsostranslated

Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at the Holy Church of Panagia Faneromeni of Michaniotissa, in Loutra Edipsos, near the Loutropolis Cemetery, in memory of Prophet Zacharios, father of Saint John the Forerunner, as well as Saint Zacharios of Cyprus. The Holy Procession was attended by bathers from Loutropolis, coming from Nea Michaniona Thessaloniki, descendants of the Asia Minor Michaniots of Kyzikos. The pious Machaniots, from the day of the inauguration of the Holy Church, observe their established vow, participating with faith and reverence in the Mystery of the Holy Eucharist.

During the Holy Mass, Artoklasia was performed for the health of all those present and their families, as well as Trisagio in memory of their deceased relatives.

The Machaniotes, with feelings of gratitude and love for the Holy Church, offered various gifts, which they themselves carried and delivered to the Church as a reverent tribute.

Special mention was made of the shocking historical moment of 1922, when the refugees from Asia Minor, coming to Edipsos as the first stop of their refugee journey, brought with them and testified with tears, faith...

It's nice to see the descendants from Nea Michaniona still keeping that vow going strong after all these years. The part about the refugees bringing the icon with them in 1922 really stuck with me. Did they end up building the church there because of that?

Yes, the 1922 story of the refugees who brought the image with tears is possible. I am glad that the descendants from Nea Michaniona continue their tradition every year and offer gifts with their own hands. Really, the church was built for this very reason?
