Coffee cultivation has begun in the Diocese of Bukombatranslated

The Holy Diocese of Bukomba, utilizing its property, started coffee cultivation. A special committee was already set up, which organized the whole effort. It was decided to utilize lands owned by the Diocese and then to plant all the Temples' estates with this cultivation. The Tanzanian state, wanting to make the country a source of coffee, encourages and supports the cultivation by citizens and organizations. Coffee is in great demand all over the world and has a good price.

The Orthodox Youth is leading this effort, which offers to cultivate the church estates, so that the Diocese and the Parishes can have income.

The project will start from the farm of the Parish of "Lord Jesus Christ the Good Farmer" in Omuwmbeya.

In the first phase, 10,000 coffee trees will be planted there. The cleaning of the estate, the opening of the pits, fertilizing and planting will begin after the first rains in September. They will normally bear fruit in 3 years. If there is drilling and they are watered they can bear fruit faster.

Paul JohnsonThat's a smart move by the Bukoba diocese, starting with 10,000 coffee seedlings at the Good Farmer parish in Omuwmbeya. The youth stepping up to work the church land for steady income makes a lot of sense, especially with the government backing it. Hope the rains come on time after September.
