The two pilots of the Phantom that crashed in Tanagra are deadtranslated

The two pilots of the F-4 Phantom that crashed in Tanagra shortly before 3 pm on Saturday during the Athens Flying Week were recovered dead. Immediately after the crash, there was an explosion and a fire, while as ERTnews reported from the scene, shortly after takeoff, the aircraft suddenly began to lose height and fall to the ground. The display of Air Force aircraft had started just minutes before the crash in front of thousands of visitors.

The two operators of the fatal F‑4 Phantom were located at a distance from the crash site, according to military sources who spoke to ERTnews, and official confirmation is awaited from the GEA.

The Minister of National Defense, Nikos Dendias, notes in his post that: "The news of the loss of life of two Air Force pilots, during the accident at Athens Flying Week, causes us all the deepest sadness. Our thoughts at the Ministry of National Defense are with their families and colleagues, to whom we extend our most sincere condolences.'

It’s a pity for the guys, they just took off and immediately fell. In front of the eyes of thousands of people, this is a nightmare. May the earth rest in peace.

I feel sorry for the two pilots. They took off, lost altitude immediately and crashed right in front of thousands of people at Athens Flying Week. My thoughts are with their families, may they rest in peace.
