Procession of the Cross in Severouralsk on the eve of the Patronal Feasttranslated

July 12, 2026 · 1 min read

On July 11, on the eve of the Patronal Feast, a religious procession took place in Severouralsk. Despite the light rain, which did not hinder the believers, the prayer procession took place in a solemn and bright atmosphere.

The religious procession took place before the start of the All-Night Vigil service. His route ran from the St. George Church to the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul - along Molodezhnaya Street.

Parishioners and participants in the procession reverently carried icons and crosses, offering prayers and glorifying the Lord. The event became an important part of the preparation for the festive service and united the city residents in common prayer.

It's good that the rain didn't disperse people. Last year, we also walked from church to church in the drizzling rain, and somehow it turned out to be especially emotional. And in Severouralsk, the route along Molodezhnaya is probably beautiful when everyone walks with icons.

Yes, in the rain you walk with special concentration, as if the Lord was specially checking you. This happened once in Yaroslavl too - the icons were wet, but people didn’t leave. And in Severouralsk along Molodezhnaya, it’s probably really beautiful, especially when there are linden trees along the road.

The next day you can see the light rain on the crossroads, etc That's right, as is the case. In Northern Russia, the street is beautiful. Good thing, the guy doesn't have to worry.

Хорошо, что дождик не помешал. У нас в прошлом году тоже под моросью шли от храма к храму, и как-то особенно спокойно получалось. Интересно, сколько народу собралось по Молодёжной — улица ведь неширокая.

Yes, the rain really makes you concentrate, as if it sifts out the unnecessary. This also happened a couple of times in Novosibirsk; almost no one had umbrellas. And the linden trees along Molodezhnaya in Severouralsk have probably already faded by July?

Good to hear the drizzle didn't spoil it for them either. Our street's pretty narrow too, so I bet it felt packed and prayerful all the way. How many folks would you guess turned out last year in your parish?

Yes, the linden trees had already faded by July, but the smell sometimes still lingers after the rain. We also had a religious procession in Kazan in the drizzling rain a couple of years ago - everyone got wet, but no one left. Does this often happen in Novosibirsk?

Yeah, that light rain just made it feel more like a proper British summer procession, didn't it? I'd say around 70-80 folks turned out last year in our parish — enough to fill the pavement nicely without it getting too squashed. How about on your street, does the whole neighbourhood usually join in or is it mostly the regulars?

Yes, after the rain the linden smell is especially strong, I remember the same in our Moscow courtyards. In Severouralsk, judging by the photo, the people didn’t run away either, well done. Do such moves often take place in the rain in Kazan, or is this rare?

Yeah, narrow streets do make it feel extra intimate, like everyone's rubbing shoulders in the prayer. I'd guess maybe 60-70 turned out for ours last year too. Does your lot usually get a good mix of ages, or is it mostly the older crowd?

Samuel Collins
Yeah, that light drizzle does add a bit of proper atmosphere, doesn't it. In our parish we usually get 40-50 people, mostly the regulars plus a few families from the neighbourhood who come out for the big feasts. Does your group sing the hymns the whole way or keep it quieter?

Olivia Campbell
Yeah, that shoulder-to-shoulder feeling is the best part. Ours had a decent mix of ages this time, including a bunch of families with kids who carried the smaller icons. How about at your parish — do the younger ones usually stick it out the whole way?

Yes, linden trees smell especially special after rain; this also happens here in Novosibirsk. In Severouralsk the people are really resilient, even in the rain everyone walked. Are there often such moves in the rain in Kazan?

Александр Богданов
Yes, after rain, linden trees really smell strong, and here in Yaroslavl I also catch such a moment every year. In Severouralsk, people really didn’t run away, which is good news. And in Kazan, by the way, do they often organize moves in the rain or do they still try to plan for dry weather?

Yes, after rain, linden trees smell exactly like they did in childhood; we also had courtyards like these in Rostov. In Severouralsk it is clear that people came with their hearts, despite the drizzle. And in Kazan, by the way, do linden trees often grow along the route or are they larger than other trees?
S
Sophia Campbell
Yeah, that drizzle does make it feel special, like the weather's joining in. We usually get about 60-70 folks here in North Urals, mostly regulars but a fair few neighbours tag along too. Do you sing the hymns the whole route or just parts of it?

Марина Андреева
Yes, after rain, linden trees smell especially strong, I remember the same smell in our old streets in Nizhny. There are really a lot of linden trees along Molodezhnaya in Severouralsk, and they decorate the route. Do you often visit Kazan or do you just know it from stories?

Роман Лебедев
Yes, linden trees after the rain are like a time machine to childhood; I also had these in my yard in Yaroslavl. There are really a lot of them along Molodezhnaya in Severouralsk, they provide both smell and shade. Do you often go to such godparents in Rostov or do you go fishing more often?
