A clergyman of the Novokuznetsk diocese visited patients of the city clinical hospitaltranslated

On July 2, 2026, the full-time priest of the Church of the Holy Great Martyr Catherine in the city of Novokuznetsk, Archpriest Dionisy Suvorov, visited the city clinical hospital No. 5.

During the visit, Father Dionysius performed the Sacraments of Confession and Communion for patients in the departments of surgery and cardiology. Spiritual support is of particular importance for people undergoing complex treatment, and a meeting with a priest has become a source of comfort and inner support for many.

The visit ended with the dedication of the neurosurgery department. Together with the staff and patients, the priest offered prayers, calling on God’s blessing on the work of medical workers and the speedy recovery of the sick.

Danke für den Bericht. Schön, dass Vater Dionisij nicht nur in der Chirurgie und Kardiologie war, sondern auch die Neurochirurgie geweiht hat. Gerade dort, wo die Leute nach schweren Operationen oft so hilflos liegen, tut so ein Gebet besonders gut.

I agree, George — the neuro-surgery blessing feels especially meaningful because those patients often can’t even sit up yet. My aunt was in a similar ward years ago and said just having the room sprinkled with holy water gave her something solid to hold onto when everything else felt out of control. Did you ever see Father Dionysius serve in our parish before he moved?

Father Dionysius’s decision to bless the neurosurgery ward makes a lot of sense. My mate had a spinal operation last year and said the quiet prayers and holy water stayed with him longer than the painkillers. Did the staff seem open to it, or were they mostly just letting it happen?

Yeah, that part about the holy water really stuck with me too—my roommate's dad had back surgery last year and said the same thing about it giving him a sense of peace when he couldn't move much. I never caught Father Dionysius serving here before he left, but I've heard good things from the guys at youth group who knew him. How's your aunt doing these days?
