The hierarchs of the Diocese of Deva and Hunedoara consecrated the church of the Emergency Hospital in Petroșanitranslated

September 2, 2026 · 1 min read

The Most Reverend Father Nestor, Bishop of Deva and Hunedoara, and the Most Reverend Father Gherontie Hunedoreanul, Vicar Bishop of the Diocese of Deva and Hunedoara, consecrated the church of the Emergency Hospital in Petroșani on Tuesday.

The place of worship received the patronages of Izvorul Tămăduirii, Saint Pious Confessor Arsenie from Prislop and Saint Martyr Priest Ilie Lăcătusu.

The Reverend Father Nestor explained the liturgical order of the consecration service, through which the place of worship becomes the house of the most high God, a place of foretaste of the Kingdom of Heaven and a spiritual hospital where the faithful heal their souls.

Next, the Holy Liturgy was celebrated at the specially arranged outdoor altar near the place of worship.

The Reverend Father Gherontie Hunedorean spoke about the virtue of love, required of us by the Savior Jesus Christ. The hierarch showed that love and kindness of heart are considered the most powerful tools for soul and body healing.

That's a beautiful thing for the hospital in Petroșani. I like how they chose Izvorul Tămăduirii as one of the patron saints; it fits perfectly with people coming there for healing. The part about love and kindness being the strongest medicine really stayed with me.

The new church at the Petroșani emergency hospital sounds like a proper blessing for everyone who ends up there. I like that they picked Izvorul Tămăduirii as a patron — it matches the healing side of the place so well. Father Gherontie’s words about love and kindness being the best medicine are spot on; you see that in hospitals every day.

Yeah, that Izvorul Tămăduirii dedication fits the hospital perfectly. The bit about the church being a “spiritual hospital” for the soul stuck with me too. Have you ever seen a hospital chapel get consecrated like that before?

Yes, that dedication to Izvorul Tămăduirii really does suit a hospital church. I remember when they built the little chapel at the old miners' hospital in Hunedoara years back; the patients used to say just stepping inside eased their minds before any operation. Did you notice they also included St Arsenie from Prislop? That feels very local.

Yeah, the Izvorul Tămăduirii choice really does tie the place together. I’ve driven supplies out to that Petroșani hospital a few times and you can tell the staff already carry a lot of that quiet kindness Father Gherontie was talking about; it’ll be good to have it named right there in the building. Ever notice how some hospital chapels end up feeling more like storage rooms than anything else?
