“Keepers of the Faith”: “About sports and faith”translated

We present to readers a new publication from the series “Keepers of the Faith. Middle Urals". The story of a parishioner of the military church in honor of the Archangel Gabriel in the city of Yekaterinburg, Raisa Mikhailovna Yusupova, is told by a member of the Club of Parish Press Secretaries, Yulia Gennadievna Siebert.

We often see Raisa Mikhailovna at services, she participates in the social life of the parish, her dishes at communal meals are especially appreciated, everything is always prepared with soul and love for people. A very modest, intelligent person, she made a short excursion into the history of her life in the genre of autobiography.

– I was born in 1946 into a family of workers. She graduated from a seven-year school in Nizhny Tagil, then from the Nizhny Tagil Mechanical Engineering College. Then there was a distribution, after technical school I worked for three years at Uralvagonzavod.

Sports have always been close to me. From 1967 to 1969, she worked at the Uralets sports club as an artistic gymnastics coach, and trained herself.

1967 was a year of important events for me, then I defended my Master of Sports standard in artistic gymnastics, and was also enrolled in preparatory courses for entering college. Two years later I entered...

Raisa Mikhailovna, thank you for sharing your story. When I was young, I also took gymnastics classes, only in Krasnodar, and I remember well how difficult it was to combine training with studies. I’m curious, what institute did you then study at?
