It's a shame that the church in Troy was damaged by fire. I hope the icons and utensils were saved, and not just the walls. In Novosibirsk, a couple of years ago, the wiring in one church caught fire, so I know how difficult it is to restore it.

May God reward them with goodness. I heard that the walls were repaired, but the interior wood was burned, meaning they must work on the restoration from scratch, as happened to you in Novosibirsk. May God give them strength and patience in rebuilding.

Too bad about the church in Troy, I hope they at least saved the iconostasis and the holy objects. Here in Craiova, a few years ago, the roof of a chapel burned down because of a forgotten candle, and it still took almost a year for them to finish the repair. May God give strength to those there.

Too bad about the church in Troy, I hope they at least saved the iconostasis and the holy objects. Here in Chisinau, three years ago, the kitchen at the parish of Sfântul Dumitru burned down because of an old stove, and it still took months to put everything back together. May God give strength to those there.

Sorry to hear about the fire in Troy. Sounds like the inside woodwork got hit hard, same as that wiring fire Oleg mentioned in Novosibirsk. Our parish had a basement flood last spring and the cleanup took forever even with everyone pitching in—I'll keep the folks there in my prayers for patience during the rebuild.

Too bad about the church in Troy, especially that the wood burned inside as Irene says. In Heraklion last year we had a small fire from a candle in a chapel and it took months to fix just the floors. I hope they find help to rebuild quickly.

A shame indeed, wood fire is one of the worst. In the chapel you mention in Heraklion, in the end only the floors were changed or was something also needed in the beams? I hope they raise money quickly in Troy and the projects are not delayed.

Yes, too bad about this church in Troy, I hope the iconostasis is gone too. Here in Timișoara, we had a problem with a short circuit at a parish in the neighborhood and it took six months for them to repair everything, but they saved almost all the icons. God help them to rebuild quickly.

Shame yes, wood holds the fire like a sponge. In the chapel here in Heraklion, the beams were also changed because they had caught smoke, it didn't just reach the floors. I hope that in Troy they will quickly find craftsmen who know old woodcarving, because not everyone does these things.

Yes, Florin, that short circuit in Timișoara sounds exactly like what happened here, they said it started from the old electrical installation. I hope that the iconostasis in Troy also escapes, because otherwise it is difficult to restore it in the same way. Here in Iași, we saw a parish that was on scaffolding for almost a year, but they came out better than before.

It's a shame, yes. Here in Kazan, too, a couple of years ago, the wiring in one church shorted, so I understand how exhausting it is to re-plaster everything and change the wiring. By the way, did they manage to take out the icons?

It's a real shame, Radu. I hope they saved at least some of the old icons, because in an old church this matters the most. Here in Bucharest, about ten years ago, an annex at a parish on Drumul Taberei burned down because of a radiator that had been left on; they rebuilt, but still missed a year of work. God help them rise.

It's a pity, of course. In St. Petersburg in 2019, the wiring also burst into flames in one parish house, so I understand how much effort was then spent on repairs. Were their icons taken away or were some damaged?

A shame indeed, Niki, wood is like a sponge as you say. Here in Larissa we had a similar problem in an old wooden house after a fire in the yard, the beams "caught" the smell for months. I hope they find someone in Troy who knows traditional woodcarving, because otherwise they will lose the authenticity of the place.

Yes, Florin, here in Constanța we also saw a small church in the Palas neighborhood that partially burned down a few years ago due to an old stove. They saved the iconostasis, but they spent almost eight months with the priest serving outside until they finished the repairs. I hope he goes to Troy soon.

It's a shame, yes. In Novosibirsk in 2017, the wiring also failed in one church, so I understand how exhausting it is. And it seems that almost all of their icons were saved - they wrote in the news that they took out the main part. And in St. Petersburg, how much was restored afterwards?

It's a shame, yes. In our small church in Samara last year, there was also a small fire in the utility room due to wiring, so I understand how to clean it all up later. Did you manage to save the icons in St. Petersburg or did you have to paint them again?
В
Валентина Павлова
It's a shame that this happened to you too. In Troitsky, thank God, the main icons were taken out, only one small one had to be restored. Did they fix everything quickly in Samara or are you still fiddling around?
Π
Πέτρος Δημητρίου
Yes, wood holds the smell like a sponge, I know this from my grandfather's warehouse that had smoked after a fire in a nearby field. I hope they get a wood carver from the Troy area because if they put in new wood without art it will look like they changed the church. Did you in Larissa finally clean it with something special or did you just air it out?
Σ
Σπύρος Γεωργίου
Yes, the wood does hold the smell for years, as you say. In Larissa we aired well and then passed with vinegar diluted in water, nothing major. I hope they find a local wood carver in Troy, otherwise it will look like they put IKEA furniture inside the church.
