It is interesting that Bishop Nektary went to Westminster for this breakfast. Who else of our hierarchs has been there before?

Δέσποινα Χατζή
Interesting that he went to Westminster. I remember that the blessed Archbishop Chrysostomos went to a similar event years ago, but I didn't know that the Serbian hierarchs continue as well. Who else had gone, you know?

Interesting that Bishop Nektarije just went to Westminster. I didn't know that our Serbian hierarchs go there regularly. Does anyone know of any other examples from recent years?

It is interesting that it was Bishop Nektariye who went to Westminster. I did not know that Serbian hierarchs were also there. And who else among us, Ukrainians, has been to such a prayer breakfast?

It is interesting that it was Bishop Nektariye who went to Westminster. I also did not know that Serbian hierarchs were there. And does any of the Ukrainian bishops remember which of ours attended such a breakfast?

I didn't know Bishop Nektarije had gone to the National Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast in Westminster. Interesting that it's become a regular stop for quite a few Orthodox hierarchs over the years. Does anyone remember which Greek or Romanian bishops have been there recently?
M
Margaret Collins
I didn't realize it had become a regular thing for Orthodox bishops either. Bishop Nektarije mentioned meeting some old friends from the Romanian Church there last year, but I can't recall any Greek names offhand. Anyone have a specific one in mind?
J
Jiří Veselý
Yes, Westminster is not exactly the usual stop for our bishops. I know that Metropolitan Rastislav from the Czech Church and also someone from the Greek Orthodox Diocese in London were there in previous years. I wonder if it was more of an invitation from British politicians or an initiative of our church.
L
Lucie Nováková
You are right, Teresa, Westminster is not exactly a common address for our bishops. I know that a few years ago the archbishop from the Greek cathedral in London was there for a similar event, but if it was at the invitation of politicians or rather an ecumenical initiative, I would also like to know that.

Petra Svobodová
Thanks for the overview, George. According to what I read in the article, it looks more like an invitation from the British organizers, because the event is traditionally open to a wider spectrum of Christians. I wonder if Bishop Nektaije also spoke with any of our compatriots in Britain there.

Interesting that Bishop Nektarios went to Westminster. I remember years ago, blessed Chrysostomos also went to a similar event, as Despina wrote. Really, does anyone know if he spoke to any of the Serbs living in London?

Katherine Davis
I think the Greek bishop who’s been a regular at the Westminster breakfast for the last few years is Bishop Athanasios of the Archdiocese of Thyateira and Great Britain. He and Nektarije seemed to know each other from previous events. Have you come across him at any of the London gatherings?
P
Peter Wilson
I remember Metropolitan Joseph from the Romanian diocese was there two years back. Haven't seen any Greek bishops mentioned lately, though. Anyone know if Bishop Nektarije goes every year or just when he's in London?
S
Sophia Bennett
I think you're right that it's become more regular lately. Bishop Nektarije also mentioned chatting with the Serbian bishop who came last year, the one from the Diocese of Britain and Scandinavia. Have you been to any of these breakfasts yourself?
J
Jan Novák
You are right, Westminster is not exactly a common address for our bishops. I would rather bet on an invitation from the organizers, they invite a lot of different Orthodox people there. I wonder if Bishop Nektairij had a short speech there, the article doesn't say anything about that.
P
Petra Svobodová
You're right, the article doesn't say anything about the speech at all, too bad. I would guess that they invited him because of the Serbian community in Britain, they have enough people there. If anyone knows how it turned out, feel free to write.
T
Tomáš Veselý
You're right, there's almost nothing about that speech. There are a lot of Serbs living in Britain, mainly in London, so it makes sense. I wonder if the bishop also met with any of the local Orthodox.
J
James Campbell
I haven't been myself, but I know a couple from our parish who went a few years back and said the Serbian bishop from Britain and Scandinavia gave a very straightforward talk that stuck with them. Nice to hear Bishop Nektarije caught up with him again this time. Did your friends mention what the food was like?
J
Jana Nováková
You are right, there is not a word about the speech. I wondered if it was more due to ecumenical contacts - Nektairius is quite active in dialogue with Anglicans. Have any of you ever been to a similar meeting?
M
Marek Dvořák
Yes, the Serbian community is quite large in London, that's true. But they don't write anything about meeting the local Orthodox, which is a shame. I wonder if the bishop visited any parishes there, for example the one at St. Sava.
L
Lenka Svobodová
You're right, they didn't mention that at all. Bishop Nektařij has already been to London a few times, so I would also like to know if he managed at least St. Savu or some other parish. Maybe one of the locals will write it on their site later.
T
Tereza Svobodová
Mark, that's a good point. I heard that the Serbian Cathedral of St. Savy in Bayswater has services around ten on Sundays, so in theory he could make it if the schedule allowed. I wonder if anyone from our diocese was there and saw him.
V
Václav Dvořák
Yes, the ecumenical reason makes sense, Nektairij really cooperates a lot with the Anglicans. I was at a similar breakfast in London two years ago and it was mainly about meeting people from different churches, not about long speeches. Have you ever been there?
P
Pavel Černý
Yes, the Serbian community in London is really large, you're right. It is a pity that the article did not mention at least a short visit to St. Savy, I'd look there too if I were him. If any of the parishioners write something later, let me know.
J
James Evans
The talk does sound like it left an impression. My wife and I met Bishop Nektarije last summer at the diocesan camp and he struck me as the same no-nonsense type. Did your friends say if the breakfast itself was any good, or was it the usual rubber chicken?
E
Eva Svobodová
You're right, they didn't really write anything about it. I would also be interested if he managed at least the Serbian chapel at St. Sava, because it tends to be quite lively there. If something comes up on their site, let me know.
G
George Miller
Yeah, the breakfast was pretty standard Westminster fare – rubber chicken and all, from what my mate said. Bishop Nektarije doesn’t waste words, does he? Did you and your wife chat with him much at the camp last summer?
J
Jiří Veselý
No, I've never been there, but it sounds like a useful meeting. We also have a few joint events with the Anglicans in Olomouc through the ecumenical group, mainly around prayer for unity. What impressed you most about that breakfast, Václav?
J
Jan Novák
Yes, it starts at 10am in Bayswater, theoretically he could make it. I asked a friend who goes there regularly, and she said that no one had seen Bishop Nektarije there, probably the program didn't allow him. Have you ever been there?
D
Daniel Wilson
Yeah, the talk definitely stuck with him too. My friends mentioned the breakfast was the usual rubber chicken setup, nothing special. At camp we only said hello after the evening service, but he gave our oldest a quick basketball tip that the kid still quotes. Did he say much to you guys?
D
David Hall
Yeah, that rubber chicken sounds about right for those big events. Bishop Nektarije was the same at camp last summer, straight to the point in every talk. My wife and I only managed a quick hello with him after the evening service, nothing long. Did your mate go to the breakfast himself?
G
George Miller
Yeah, those formal breakfasts are always the same — rubber chicken and short speeches. Bishop Nektarije does keep things direct, just like you saw at camp. My mate only caught the event on the livestream, said the bishop's few words on forgiveness really stuck with him. Did he mention anything else that stood out to you from last summer?
