Bishop Galaction celebrates three decades of bishoprictranslated

The Most Reverend Father Galaction celebrates three decades of bishopric and enthronement as Bishop of Alexandria and Teleormanu on Tuesday.

Born on May 17, 1953, in the village of Constantin Brâncoveanu, Ialomița county, he was baptized as Gheorghe.

Theological studies and monastic life After graduating from the general school in his native village and the Theoretic High School in Slobozia, he attended, between 1972 and 1976, the courses of the Orthodox High School Theological Seminary in Bucharest.

In 1976, he entered the community of the Crasna Hermitage, from Prahova county, where he was ordained a monk on November 6, 1977, receiving the name Galaction.

At the same time, he continued his theological training at the Graduate Theological Institute in Bucharest, which he graduated in 1981.

He was ordained a deacon in October 1978 by the Patriarchal Vicar Bishop Antonie Ploieșteanul, and on November 2, 1978 he was ordained a hieromonk by the Most Reverend Father Roman Ialomițeanul, at the Patriarchal Cathedral in Bucharest.

On April 1, 1980, he was elected abbot of the Crasna Hermitage, and three years later he received the rank of Protosinghel.
