September 6, 2026 · 1 min read

With deep sorrow, the Patriarchate of Jerusalem announced the passing of Elder Archimandrite Chrysostomos, who served for many years as Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Saint Gerasimos of the Jordan.

Elder Chrysostomos fell asleep in the Lord a few hours ago in Athens, following health problems.

A native of Mani, the late Elder was a devoted member of the Brotherhood of the Holy Sepulchre for decades, faithfully serving the Church of Zion and the All-Holy Shrines.

May his memory be eternal. I remember we went on a pilgrimage to the monastery of Agios Gerasimos years ago and it was still in a poor state; he did a huge job to bring it to what it is today. Good heavens, old man.

Eternal memory to him. I remember how the article says that the monastery was in serious condition, and he raised it with his own hands. He was a good worker, the kingdom of heaven.

Yes, I also remember that time when the monastery was half destroyed. The Elder put his hands and brought it out of abandonment, made new cells and tended the garden. Forever his memory.

I remember reading that when he took over that monastery of St. Gerasimo, it was in a terrible state, and he put it together with his own hands - new cells and a garden. Eternal memory to him, may he rest in peace.
