Ecumenical Institute brings emerging theologians together across North America–Turtle Island

The North America–Turtle Island Regional Ecumenical Theological Institute (NATI-RETI) is currently bringing together 20 emerging theologians and ecumenical leaders from Canada and the United States for two weeks of intensive learning, prayer, encounter, and community life.

Taking place from 3-16 August under the theme “ Where Now for Visible Justice?” the institute began with a residential week in Detroit, United States of America; followed by a second week at the University of Toronto, Canada.

NATI-RETI is jointly organized by the Canadian Council of Churches (CCC) and the National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA (NCCCUSA), with accompaniment from the World Council of Churches (WCC). It draws inspiration from the WCC Global Ecumenical Theological Institute (GETI) and adapts its immersive model to the realities of North America–Turtle Island.

It seems well organized, this week-long trip to Detroit then Toronto. The theme “Where Now for Visible Justice?” » makes me think of what we see every day in hospitals, where inequalities are immediately apparent. Do participants also come from Orthodox Churches?

I did like that they started in Detroit and then went on to Toronto, two cities I know by name. Topic "Where Now for Visible Justice?" it reminded me how I see every day at school children who come from different families and how hard it is to work for justice to really be seen. Have any of the Orthodox Churches joined this group?

Maya's comment: It's a good idea to move from Detroit to Toronto, both cities are cool places. Topic "Where Now for Visible Justice?" It's interesting, but what I liked the most is that 20 young theologians live, pray and study together for two weeks. In our shop, I often see how different people help each other, so I hope that they will also get something concrete from these meetings.

On a good note, Maya, Detroit and Toronto are really interesting choices. And I think that living together and praying for two weeks changes more than just lectures. My wife and I often say that the best conversation starts when we are all sitting at the table together. What do you think would be most useful for these 20 young people?
