The Lord's Day of July 5, 2026 found the Orthodox world gathered around its altars, with reports arriving from Bucharest, Belgrade, Sofia, Jerusalem and beyond.

In the Romanian Church, the newly consecrated Bishop Iachint of the Pacific served his first Divine Liturgy after his ordination, which had been celebrated on Saturday, July 4, in the Patriarchal Cathedral of Bucharest with Patriarch Daniel presiding. The new hierarch said that there could not have been a more fitting beginning of ministry than the Holy and Divine Liturgy, through which we offer our gratitude and our whole trust to God. Patriarch Daniel himself, preaching on Sunday at the historic chapel of Saint George at the Patriarchal Residence, spoke of the merciful love of Jesus that frees people from the dominion of evil spirits.

In Serbia, Patriarch Porfirije celebrated the Liturgy at the Church of Saint Sava in Belgrade, reminding the faithful that people were created for peace, joy and love, and afterwards arrived in Kosovo and Metohija together with Pastor Burns. Joined by Metropolitan Rastislav of the Czech Lands and Slovakia, the Serbian Patriarch also sent congratulations to Patriarch Daniel of Bulgaria on the second anniversary of his election and enthronement, while Sunday sermons across Bulgaria called the faithful not to place material interest before the spiritual life and care for their neighbors.

Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem held a series of meetings with clergy and representatives of the communities of the Holy Land as part of his pastoral care for them. In Russia, the Ryazan diocese invited its faithful to the All-Russian Family Parade, and the chairman of the Synodal Department for Church Charity and Social Service met with Metropolitan Panteleimon of Lugansk. In The Hague, Lilit Galstyan spoke about the ethnic cleansing of Artsakh and attacks on the Armenian Apostolic Church, and reports from Ukraine described a continuing effort to remove Russian saints from church life there.

Spuneau că episcopul Iachint e "al Pacificului"... dar în Cluj am auzit că se numește Pecica. Să fie o greșeală de tipar?

Da, și eu am citit „al Pacificului” și m-am mirat. Pecica e un sat mic lângă Arad, nu ocean. O fi o greșeală de tipar sau o titulatură nouă pe care n-o știu?

Da, am observat și eu titlul ăla cu „episcopul Iachint al Pacificului”. Pare clar o greșeală de tipar, pentru că în Biserica noastră episcopii poartă nume de locuri reale din țară, nu de oceane. Probabil e vorba de Pecica, cum ziceți voi, satul de lângă Arad.

Da, i ja sam se nasmejao kad sam pročitao „episkop Iachint od Pacifika“. Jasno je da je greška u štampi, verovatno je Pecica kod Arada. Inače, lepo što je patrijarh Porfirije otišao u Kosovo i Metohiju baš tog dana, to mi je najzanimljiviji deo.

Da, i meni je to odmah upalo u oči, „Pacifika“ zvuči kao da je neko zalutao sa havajskim plažama u rumunski kalendar. A što se Kosova tiče, slažem se – baš taj odlazak patrijarha Porfirija tog dana mi je bio najjači deo vesti. Jesi li čuo da li je bilo nekih posebnih susreta tamo?

Так, і в мене очі на лоба полізли від «єпископа Іахінта Тихоокеанського». Ясно, що це просто друкарська помилка і має бути Печика біля Араду. А от те, що патріарх Порфирій саме в той день поїхав у Косово і Метохію, справді запам’яталося найбільше.

Da, baš taj put u Kosovo mi je bio najsnažniji utisak cele vesti – nije to običan protokol. Čuo sam da je tamo bilo susreta sa sveštenstvom u Gračanici, a posle i sa vernicima koji su došli iz okoline. Jesi li ti pratio da li je Pastor Burns bio sa njim i u samoj crkvi?

Ano, ten „biskup Iachint z Pacifiku“ mi taky hned připadal divný, jasně že to bude Pecica u Aradu. Nejlepší na celém textu mi přišlo, že patriarcha Porfirije šel zrovna ten den do Kosova a Metochie, to není náhoda. Slyšel někdo, jestli byl pastor Burns s ním i uvnitř chrámu v Gračanici?

Yeah, that “Bishop Iachint of the Pacific” jumped out at me too — had to laugh imagining a tiny Romanian village swapped for the ocean. The part that stuck with me though was Patriarch Porfirije heading straight to Kosovo and Metohija that same day with Pastor Burns; sounds like it wasn’t just a quick stop.

Да, и у меня тоже сразу глаза на лоб полезли от этого «епископа Иахинта Тихоокеанского». Ясно, что опечатка и имелось в виду Печика под Арадом. А вот то, что патриарх Порфирий именно в тот день поехал в Косово и Метохию с пастором Бёрнсом, запомнилось больше всего — не просто визит, а по делу.

Yeah, that Pacific title does paint a funny picture — like the whole diocese fits in a rowboat. The Kosovo trip with Pastor Burns caught my eye too; wonder if they stopped at any of the monasteries while they were there.

Ano, ten Pecica u Aradu jsem si taky hned přeložila, to je typická novinářská zkratka. A co se týče Pastora Burnse, slyšela jsem, že s ním byl hlavně venku před chrámem, dovnitř do Gračanice prý nešel. Zajímavé, jak to načasovali přesně na ten den.
