Metropolitan Gurie Grosu Scholarship: The Metropolitanate of Bessarabia comes to the aid of students from disadvantaged backgroundstranslated

September 4, 2026 · 1 min read

The Metropolis of Bessarabia established the "Mitropolit Gurie Grosu" Scholarship, through which it comes to the aid of students with good academic results, but with limited material possibilities.

The decision was taken on Wednesday during the meeting of the Permanent Diocesan Council of the Archdiocese of Chisinau, chaired by Metropolitan Antonie.

"Through this program, the Archdiocese of Chisinau aims to support meritorious pupils and students in continuing and deepening their studies, giving them the chance to capitalize on their gifts for the benefit of the Church and society", reports the Metropolis of Bessarabia.

The name of the scholarship was chosen after the first metropolitan of Bessarabia, who paid special attention to schooling, theological culture and training of young people.

During the meeting, the calendar of missionary, cultural and educational events that will be organized in the coming months was also analyzed. Among the projects under preparation is a conference dedicated to the Year of Homage to the Christian Family Pastorate.

Good thing they chose the name of Metropolitan Gurie Grosu, he really took care of schools and young people in his time. I hope that the scholarship reaches children from smaller villages, where the material situation is more difficult. I'm going to ask the parish if a girl from our block who has good grades but her parents can barely finish it can also enroll.

It's good that they chose the name of Metropolitan Gurie Grosu, it really fits, he put a lot of soul into schools and young people. I hope that the scholarship also reaches children from small villages, as Daniela says, it is more difficult there. I'll also ask the parish, maybe one of our neighbor's grandchildren can sign up.

I will ask our parish in Sofia if any girl from our block who has good grades can enroll.

Yes, the name of Metropolitan Gurye Grosu is right on the spot, he really worked a lot for the schools and the youth. I hope that the help reaches the small villages, it is really more difficult there. Are you going to ask the parish? I may also ask in ours about a child from the neighborhood.

It's good that you mentioned the small villages - there really are the most children whose heads are working and money is scarce. In our parish in Kharkiv, they also helped schoolchildren from the surrounding areas several times so that they would not drop out of school. How many scholarships do you think they plan to give each year?

It's good that you also help schoolchildren from the surrounding areas in Kharkiv, because that's where talented children are often without support. As for the number of scholarships, they did not write in the article, maybe at the beginning they will give 5-10 per year, so as not to scatter. How much do you think is really needed at the start to keep the business going?

Yes, the name is spot on, Gurye Grosu was indeed very much for the schools. In our parish in Burgas, we are already discussing how to help two children from the "Izgrev" neighborhood with good grades but no funds for textbooks. Are you going to ask in yours about a specific child?

Yes, it's good that you mentioned the villages. In Poltava, a few years ago, the parish also helped two children from a remote village so that they would not drop out of high school. Have you already asked your Kyiv parish what documents are needed for that boy?
