On August 14, the first day of the Dormition Fast, Archbishop Aksy of Podolsk and Lyubertsy celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Cathedral of the All-Merciful Savior of the Ascension David Hermitage. On this day, the monastery celebrated the patronal holiday. Before the service, the bishop was met by the head of the m.o. Chekhov M.N. Sobakin. His Eminence was served by: the secretary of the Podolsk diocesan administration, priest Konstantin Semenov, the dean of the monasteries of the Podolsk diocese, the abbot of the monastery Sergius (Kuksov), the dean of the Serpukhov church district, priest Dionysius Koskin, and the clergy of the monastery. The diaconal rank was headed by the cleric of the Novodevichy Convent in Moscow, Deacon Vasily Kosterkin. Liturgical chants were performed by the festive choir of the Ascension David Hermitage under the direction of Daniil Kuchma. The following people prayed during the service: Chairman of the Council of Deputies m.o. Chekhov G.S. Kozina, Head of the Department for the Development of Social Sector Industries of the District Administration O.N. Shchukina, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Soyuz Marins Group company A.A. Sarkisyan.

It’s good that Bishop Aksiy arrived on the first day of Lent. I wonder how Daniil Kuchma’s choir coped with the Assumption chants in the heat? The prayer for Holy Rus' at such a service is especially relevant.

It’s good that Bishop Aksiy came on the very first day of Lent, it was on business. Here in Samara, in such heat, the choir sometimes runs out of steam, too, but here Daniil Kuchma also pulled out the Assumption Hymns - well done. The prayer for Holy Rus' at the end was especially fitting.

The choir under Daniel Kuchma must have worked hard in that heat – I remember how our own parish choir struggled during last year’s Dormition fast services. Nice to see the local officials there too, especially the head of the Chekhov district. The prayer for Holy Rus’ at the end feels right for the start of the fast.
