I'm mentally ill. If I commit suicide, will they pray for me?translated

September 29, 2026 · 1 min read

Reader question:

Is it possible to pray for a person who has committed suicide due to mental illness? Will he go to hell for this? I have been seriously ill since I was 7 years old and there is no cure. Sometimes I fall into an inadequate state of acute delirium with hallucinations. There have already been cases when I harmed myself in this state. I pray if the psychosis is just getting worse, but it only delays it for a couple of hours (for which I am also grateful to God). Please don’t tell me to pray for healing, I already know and do that. Just answer, if I, God forbid, die, what will happen to me? Will my family be able to pray for me? If I go to hell and cannot be prayed for, I want to know in advance. Thank you for your answer.

Archpriest Andrey EFANOV

God bless you, dear Daria!

At home, you can pray for the repose of any person - of any religion, even those who died under any circumstances.
