Hierarchal service of the Paraklisis to the Most Holy Theotokostranslated

August 22, 2026 · 1 min read

In the evening, August 21, in the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Archbishop of Petropavlovsk and Kamchatka Theodore performed Paraclesis - a prayer service with an akathist before the “Kazan” Icon of the Mother of God.

Concelebrating with the Bishop was Priest Vladimir Mironov, a cleric of the cathedral. The chants were performed by the Cathedral Choir.

Every week, on Fridays, at 18:00, a special service to the Blessed Virgin Mary - Paraklisis - is held in the Holy Trinity Cathedral. Translated from Greek, this word means “zealous prayer.” The Paraklisis consists of a canon and an akathist to the Most Holy Theotokos. This is a separate service that is served in front of the venerated image of the Mother of God. The singing heard during the service is touching and at the same time solemn, because the Mother of God personifies all the beauty and glory of the Church, as well as the closeness of the human race to God.

Thanks for the article. I didn't know they hold this Paraklesis every Friday at 6 pm in front of the Kazan icon—might try to catch it next time I'm out that way. The choir must make it sound really steady and prayerful.
