Archbishop Sava celebrated the All-Night Vigil on the eve of the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Marytranslated

September 20, 2026 · 1 min read

On the evening of September 20, on the eve of the great twelfth feast of the Nativity of our Most Holy Lady Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary, His Eminence Archbishop Savva of Tiraspol and Dubossary led the service of the All-Night Vigil in the Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ. The cathedral clergy concelebrated with the Most Reverend Bishop. According to the church charter, after the All-Night Vigil, a lithium was performed - part of the service, during which the clergy go into the vestibule of the church. During the lithium, bread, wheat, wine and oil are blessed. During the anointing with oil, blessed bread, watered with wine, is distributed to the believers. On the polyeleos, the Ruling Bishop read the Gospel Conception, laid down for the evening services performed in honor of the Most Holy Theotokos. After reading the Holy Gospel, Archbishop Sava addressed the parishioners with a word of edification, after which he anointed the clergy and laity with consecrated oil.

I was reading this exact article last night and it blew my mind. I remembered how simply the blessing of the bread, wine and oil is done – as if our daily life is shared within the church. Reverend Savvas spoke after the Gospel, what did he say to the faithful?
