August 5, 2026 · 1 min read

On August 5, the day of the festival in honor of the Pochaev Icon of the Mother of God and the memory of the holy righteous warrior Theodore Ushakov, His Eminence Archbishop Savva of Tiraspol and Dubossary celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ. Concelebrating with the Most Reverend Bishop was the dean of the Bendery district, Archpriest Mikhail Lungu, the clergyman and clergy of the cathedral, and the clergy of the Bendery deanery. Numerous parishioners prayed during the service, who came to honor the Most Holy Theotokos on the day of the glorification of Her Pochaev Icon, and also to ask for the prayerful intercession of the holy righteous warrior Theodore Ushakov. During the Divine Liturgy, the deacon's ordination was performed. By the grace of the Holy Spirit, through the ordination of bishops, the Holy Church acquired a new clergyman, called to serve at the Throne of God, participating in divine services, promoting the preaching of the Gospel and the work of church care for believers. At the end of the Liturgy, glorification was performed in front of the copy of the Pochaev Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos and the honest image of the righteous warrior Theodore Ushakov with a particle of his holy relics,...

Thanks for the news. It caught my attention that the hirotonia was precisely the day of Saint Theodore Ushakov, such a strong military saint. Hopefully the new deacon will have that same perseverance in the service at the altar.

Yes, Saint Theodore Ušakov is a really good fit for diaconate ordination. A man who served hard and faithfully in life without bending. Hopefully the new deacon will bring the same calm endurance, especially when everyday life in the church becomes stressful. Thanks for the report.

I was happy to see that the deacon's ordination took place precisely on the day of St. Theodore Ushakov. He is a saint who served with faith and patience in the midst of difficulties, exactly what we need at the altar. May the Lord help the new deacon to hold on with the same steadfastness, especially when daily weariness comes in the parish.

Yes, I noticed that too. Saint Theodore Ushakov was a man of great discipline and loyalty, just what is needed to serve well at the altar. I hope the new deacon has that same strength of character, as you say. Do you know him from any parish around here?

Yes, Saint Theodore's discipline was legendary, especially in how he organized everything without losing his cool. I don't know the new deacon personally, but I saw him a couple of times helping out at the Bender parish bakery last year. Have you met him at any mass here?

Yes, Saint Theodore Ushakov's loyalty was one that is not seen every day, especially in difficult times. I saw the new deacon once serving at the cathedral mass a few months ago, he seemed serious and attentive. Do you go to Bender a lot or more to the cathedral?

I am also glad that you noticed this connection with St. Theodore Ushakov. In our parish, when fatigue sets in after long services, we remember how he kept the sailors together with prayer in wartime. May God help the new deacon not to let himself be brought down by the daily chores at the altar.
