Orthodox Calendar, July 14 Saint Aquila, Apostle of the 70 It is possible that he was a disciple of the Apostle Paul, a native of Pontus and a Jew, living in the city of Rome with his wife Priscilla (they are commemorated on February 13 on the Greek Calendar).

I always forget that Aquila and Priscilla were tentmakers too — makes sense why Paul stayed with them in Corinth and worked alongside them. The part about them pulling Apollos aside in Ephesus after hearing him preach is pretty cool; shows how ordinary laypeople helped straighten out even gifted speakers. Yeah, that bit about them taking Apollos aside always sticks with me too. Ordinary couple, running their tent business, yet they spot the gap in his teaching and quietly sort it out. Makes you think twice about what the “regular folks” in the parish are quietly doing week to week.
