Saint David of Thessaloniki always stuck with me because he lived as a hermit in an almond tree for years. The Tikhvin icon is one we have a small print of at home too. Good reminder during the Apostles' Fast.

It is interesting that David of Thessaloniki lived on an almond tree for so many years. We also have a small icon of Tikhvinskaya at home, my wife keeps it on the shelf. And you mentioned in this post that it is during the Petrivka festival that reminds me - thank you, because I had already forgotten that today is on the calendar.

That almond tree detail about St. David always gets me too — can you imagine living up there for years? We keep our little Tikhvin print on the kitchen windowsill where I see it while I’m baking, and it really does help jog my memory during the Apostles’ Fast. Thanks for the reminder, both of you.

In Kazan we also have a small icon of Tikhvinskaya, on my shelf next to the Gospel. I heard about David of Thessaloniki on the almond tree, but every time I think - how did he stay there in the winter? Thank you for reminding me about Petrov’s fast, otherwise I’ve already lost my mind.
