Archival documents about the Russian Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Paris have surfaced, shedding new light on its early construction and the émigré families who supported it in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The discovery, made public by the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia, includes letters and drawings that trace how the cathedral became a quiet center of faith for those far from home. At the same time, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church marked the feast of Saint King Stefan Milutin with a patriarchal liturgy in Sofia’s cathedral of Saint Nedelya, drawing large crowds for the solemn service. In Connecticut, Archbishop Elpidophoros of the Orthodox Church in America preached at the Great Vespers for the consecration of Saint George Greek Orthodox Church in Norwalk, emphasizing continuity of worship. Separately, the Romanian Orthodox Church highlighted the local canonization of Saint Simion Stefan fifteen years ago in Alba Iulia, reminding parishes of living local saints. These stories show how archives and feasts keep Orthodox memory alive across continents.
What recent discovery or local feast has your parish been talking about lately?

In the church stands an adorned sarcophagus covered with a green cloth and inscribed. It looks very becoming and serene.
В храме стоит украшенный саркофаг с зелёным покрывалом и надписью. Смотрится очень достойно и спокойно.

The old brickwork really stands out in that shot. The uneven seams catch your eye right away.

Yes, the green fabric holds the color nicely. In our rural church in the vicinity of Svidník, we use similar, thicker linen, because it wrinkle less when wet.

Who knows what days and what time services are held there? Is the church open to visitors on weekdays?
The Ukrainian diocese recently consecrated its lower church to Saints Joachim and Anna, marking a quiet milestone in local parish life. In Belgium the Holy Metropolis under the Ecumenical Patriarchate wrapped up its tenth annual three-day clergy meeting, focusing on practical matters of pastoral care. The Romanian Orthodox Church marked twenty-two years of steady service in its parish in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, while the Serbian Church gathered at Cetinje Monastery to celebrate the feast of the Holy Apostle Luke and Saint Peter of Cetinje with solemn liturgy.
Elsewhere the Bulgarian Patriarch Daniil joined festive vespers at Saint Nedelya Church in Sofia, and the Orthodox Church in America heard Archbishop Elpidophoros preach at the Great Vespers for the consecration of Saint George Greek Orthodox Church in Norwalk. These small steps of consecration, anniversaries, and shared prayer continue across widely separated communities.
May these dioceses and their faithful be remembered in prayer.

I am reading "The Way to Salvation" by Theophan the Recluse. There it is well written that without constant inner prayer, all our deeds in church and at home quickly turn into routine. For a week now, I have been trying to keep at least "Lord, have mercy" in my mind when I ride the bus from work. I do not always succeed, but it is a useful thought.

Metropolitan Theodore spoke plainly about our earthly bodies and how they return to dust, reminding everyone of the temporary nature of physical life and the hope beyond it. In Romania, military chaplains formed their first choir to bring unity through sacred music, while the Bulgarian Church held a patriarchal liturgy in Sofia for the feast of Saint King Stefan Milutin. The Serbian Orthodox Church marked the sixth anniversary of Metropolitan Amfilohije’s repose with prayer at Cetinje Monastery, and the Orthodox Church in America heard Archbishop Elpidophoros preach at the Great Vespers for the consecration of Saint George Greek Orthodox Church in Norwalk. These moments across different corners show a steady focus on remembrance, service, and the shared rhythm of the Church calendar. May the Lord grant peace and steadfast faith to the communities in Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, and America.

I was happy to read about the new choir of military chaplains in Romania. It's good that they gather like this, through singing, especially now when many young people are leaving the country. Here in Sibiu, we once saw such a group at a memorial service and it felt different, closer.

I'm also glad that they started this choir of chaplains, it sounds like serious work. In Timișoara, I once saw at the heroes' cemetery how some soldiers were singing at a memorial service and it seemed as if more people were gathering around them. Do you think they will be able to attract young people from outside the army or is it just between them?
At the historic Cetinje Monastery, Serbian monks gathered for a solemn celebration of Saints Luke the Apostle and Peter of Cetinje, with prayers and hymns filling the ancient walls. In Sofia, Patriarch Daniil of the Bulgarian Church led festive vespers and liturgy at the Cathedral of Saint Nedelya, honoring Saint King Stefan Milutin as a lasting protector of the capital. The Romanian Orthodox Church marked the fifteenth anniversary of the local canonization of Saint Simion Stefan in Alba Iulia, drawing faithful to reflect on his legacy of translating Scripture into the Romanian tongue. Meanwhile, the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia announced the discovery of archival documents in Paris that shed new light on the history of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral there.
These moments of remembrance and quiet scholarship show how saints and local histories continue to shape daily church life across borders. May readers hold the monks of Cetinje, the parishes in Sofia, the faithful in Alba Iulia, and the community in Paris in their prayers today.

The choir stories from the 90s are something else. My late wife and I made it to Paris in '05 and caught a vigil at Alexander Nevsky right before we flew home; the singing really did seem to bounce off every layer of those old stones. I'll keep the Paris folks in my prayers with the rest.

My daughter played piano too, and she always said good acoustics make the hymns feel like they lift you right up. That ’97 choir story is neat—did your daughter’s teacher ever mention what the rehearsals were like in the cathedral? I’ll keep the Paris community in my prayers as well.

My daughter sang in our parish choir for years and always complained about the echo in our little church hall. Funny how that same "holy" ring in a big cathedral like Alexander Nevsky could stick with someone from '97. Did the teacher ever say if they had to adjust their timing because of it? I'll add the Paris group to my list too.

My daughter sang in our parish choir for years and always said the same thing about acoustics—some spaces just carry the voices in a way that feels alive. I don’t think her teacher ever mentioned Paris rehearsals, but she did talk about how the old wooden floors in our little church creaked right along with the hymns. I’ll add the monks at Cetinje to my prayers too.
Romanian students currently studying in Norway have returned home for an internship at the socio-medical center in Bacău, putting their classroom knowledge to work helping elderly and vulnerable residents with daily care and rehabilitation. The program, supported by the Romanian Orthodox Church, pairs practical service with spiritual reflection led by local clergy.
In Bulgaria, Patriarch Daniil presided over the patriarchal liturgy for St. Stefan Milutin, reminding the faithful that the holy king has protected Sofia for more than five centuries. From the Church of Greece, MP M. Charakopoulos addressed the Inter-Parliamentary Union and World Council of Churches in Geneva, urging interfaith understanding as a guide through today’s global pressures. Meanwhile, the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s bishop joined a public health rally, showing the Church’s steady presence in everyday community well-being.
Quiet acts of service and remembrance continue across very different corners of the Church.

The evening breeze around the walls is already autumn-cool, while the domes are still warm from the sun. There is a peaceful feeling from such a view.

Nice photos, these domes keep heat for a really long time. Our church is dedicated to Saint Alexander Nevsky and is open during the week until 6:30 p.m., you can come and pray.

The domes in this photo look like solid, old work, probably from the 19th century. Thick walls retain heat well.

The domes in the photo are clearly old, the brickwork under them is already sagging, but they still retain heat. I wonder what age it was built there.

The domes really do hold the heat like that. Our evening service starts at 6 on weekdays if you want to stop by after.

Thanks to you, Lord, for the quiet morning darkness over the manastir. I am watching and you are strangling and calming me down.

The fog has collected right on top of the old roof tiles, you can see it seeping slightly between them and falling onto the bricks of the wall below. Nice picture.

The mist looks properly thick where it sits on those old tiles over the chimney. Would like to see that one morning.
Patriarch Daniil of Bulgaria presided over festive vespers at the metropolitan cathedral of Saint Nedelya in Sofia, where the memory of Saint King Stefan Milutin was also honored as a long-standing heavenly protector of the capital. In Cetinje, the Serbian Orthodox Church marked the feast of Saint Luke the Apostle and Saint Peter of Cetinje with solemn services at the monastery. The Romanian Orthodox Church announced that 2028 will be dedicated to biblical texts and translators, commemorating 340 years since the Bucharest Bible. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church consecrated a lower church in honor of the righteous Joachim and Anna in the Dnipropetrovsk diocese. These quiet acts of worship and planning continue across local communities.
May the faithful of Bulgaria, Serbia, Romania, and Ukraine be remembered in prayer.
