Two years after his repose, Archbishop Peter of ROCOR is being remembered with quiet gratitude across parishes that knew his steady hand. In Germany the Serbian monastery of Himmelsthür has just been consecrated after careful restoration, its simple stone walls once again ready for the daily cycle. The Serbian Orthodox Church held a joint concert of its seminaries, letting young voices carry familiar chants into the evening. From Iași the Romanian Church translated the relics of Apostle Andrew while Bishop Visarion reminded pilgrims that the soul must become good soil. At the same time the Church of Greece accepted the unexpected resignation of Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Mithymni, and the Orthodox Church in America gathered its bishops and faithful to pray for Pope Leo before his lung surgery. These ordinary steps, one after another, keep the life of the Church moving.
Metropolitan Saba of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch has urged greater awareness and support for the Special Olympics, highlighting how sports can open doors for people with intellectual disabilities. In related church life, the Dimitria Metropolis in the Church of Greece consecrated its new Synagogue of Readers and Priests, strengthening local ministry teams. The Ecumenical Patriarchate honored Priest Johnna Grigoriadou for twenty-two years of faithful service at the Holy Cathedral of Derkon. Meanwhile, the Orthodox Church in America shared a thoughtful reflection on the lasting impact of St. Eugene’s Camp on young participants. These moments show parishes finding fresh ways to serve their communities. How does your own parish connect faith with outreach or sports programs?
Romanian faithful in Iasi welcomed the relics of Saint Andrew with crowded processions and extended prayer services at the metropolitan cathedral. The event drew thousands who venerated the apostle’s bones brought from Patras. In the same week the Church of Greece opened new catechetical schools in Agios Panteleimon Kalamaria, emphasizing regular classes for children and adults. The Serbian Orthodox Church marked Michaelmas with traditional liturgies and family gatherings across its dioceses. Separately, the Orthodox Church in America held special prayers for Pope Leo ahead of his lung surgery, joining other jurisdictions in a simple gesture of Christian concern. These coordinated moments of veneration, teaching, and quiet solidarity show how local churches keep the faith alive through concrete acts rather than abstract ideas.
Metropolitan Photija of the Serbian Orthodox Church spoke plainly on the television program “Dan osmi” about what it means to live the true faith day by day instead of treating it as an inherited custom. He stressed that real belief shows up in concrete choices at home and at work, not only in church on Sundays. At the same time, Bishop Paisie of the Romanian Orthodox Church reminded families that children learn the faith best by watching how their parents pray, forgive, and serve rather than by hearing lectures alone. In the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, teachers from Sunday schools gathered in Sofia to share practical ways to make lessons stick with young people. Across the Atlantic, Bishop Andrei of the Orthodox Church in America spent time with youth at a Romanian parish in Canada, joining them in prayer and conversation that connected everyday life with the Gospel. Each diocese approaches the same question from its own corner: how to keep faith from becoming mere habit. What simple practice has helped your own parish pass on living faith to the next generation?
Bulgarian teachers gathered in Sofia this weekend for intensive Sunday school training focused on faith formation for children. The sessions emphasized practical ways to teach the lives of saints and basic Orthodox doctrine through age-appropriate activities. At the same time, the Church of Greece reported strong attendance at the first parent meeting of the year at Evangelistria Piraeus, where families discussed supporting their kids’ spiritual growth at home. In the Romanian Orthodox Church, pilgrims in Iasi shared moving testimonies about how St. Paraskeva shaped their family traditions across generations. The Orthodox Church in America highlighted reflections from counselors at St. Eugene’s Camp, noting how summer programs continue to form lasting bonds with the faith among young participants. These gatherings show a steady focus on handing on the tradition one classroom and one conversation at a time.

A church with golden domes is reflected in the water and a figure stands in front. I took this photo yesterday, it looks peaceful.

Beautiful view. Where and when exactly did you take the picture?

The domes are beautifully reflected in the water. I especially noticed how the brick on the figure’s wall had darkened with moisture.
The church stands still behind the stone wall, with the large golden cross on top. It's beautiful how the sun illuminates it all.

The domes really stand out against the greenery, the old brick gives the photo a nice patina.

The yellow of the old masonry comes out even more intense in the afternoon light. In our parts of Achaia, the same stones from the Helmos quarries keep their color for decades.
Here is a quiet village among fields and trees. There is a small lake ahead, the water is calm.

Yesterday after the service, Giannis and I went to water the flowers in the church yard. The basils have been in full bloom this summer and are smelling up the whole yard. I also put some fertilizer that I had brought from home, tomorrow I will come back to tidy up the dry branches.

The old stone church stands quietly under the cloudy sky. The ruins are still beautiful in their own way.

Yes, the old stone is still standing. I hope to see it for myself one day.
This morning I lit a candle for the repose of Nina, my friend from the factory days. She and I went to church together for twenty years, sharing our joys and our troubles. It was a good friendship, simple and true.
