The patronal feast at Gethsemane Monastery on the Mount of Olives drew His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilus of Jerusalem, who led celebrations honoring St. Mary Magdalene. In a separate gathering, the Serbian Orthodox Church marked the patronal feast of the Eparchy of Bačka with services focused on its heavenly protector. The Bulgarian Orthodox Church saw Patriarch Daniel received at the Kyriakoupolis Archbishopric and later visit a church in Fuheis, Jordan, where he met King Abdullah II. Meanwhile, the Orthodox Church in America congratulated Archbishop Michael on his nameday with warm wishes from across the dioceses.
These quiet observances reflect steady rhythms of local church life. Remember the monasteries, eparchies, and faithful of Jerusalem, Serbia, Bulgaria, and North America in prayer today.

The Gift Farm-Garden project is now supplying fresh vegetables and herbs to several parishes in the Romanian Orthodox Church. In the Diocese of Huși, volunteers tend raised beds that yield tomatoes, peppers, and greens distributed weekly after liturgy. The Romanian Patriarchate’s “SPER” initiative coordinates similar plots at three Bucharest parishes, teaching families how to preserve the harvest for winter.
Across the Atlantic, the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch runs its own version called The Family Meal at St. George Church in Maryland, where a small orchard and garden feed the food pantry and Sunday fellowship tables. In the Orthodox Church in America, St. Sofian of Antim Mission in Montreal added raised beds this spring; Bishop Andrei blessed the first harvest during the patronal feast.
Bulgarian Orthodox parishes near Stara Zagora have joined a parallel effort, using church land to grow produce for local pensioners.
These gardens turn ordinary parish land into steady support for neighbors in need.

Metropolitan of Zambia sat down with the country’s Secretary General of Tourism to talk about strengthening links between local pilgrimage sites and the wider Church. In the same week the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria highlighted practical cooperation that can draw visitors while respecting the faith. Over in Moldova the Russian Orthodox Church presented two new volumes on the life and work of Metropolitan Vladimir at the local theological academy. In Budapest the abbot of a Ukrainian Orthodox Church parish met Hungary’s deputy for interfaith relations to discuss everyday parish needs.
These separate moments show how dioceses keep weaving pastoral care with cultural and educational ties.
May these communities be held in prayer today.

Last evening we had a choir test at the church. We went through three troparia for Sunday and the new irmos given by Father Jan, which went quite well even with the basses. My throat was a bit sore from the winter, but otherwise it was pleasant; at home I still managed to make my son some hot chocolate before bed.

The zucchini in the church garden are getting huge this summer. I spent an hour yesterday pulling weeds around the tomatoes and tying up the beans before the choir practice. Feels good to see it all coming along.

Serbian monks at Visoki Dečani Monastery have joined forces with local families to tend the vineyards that have supplied the monastery for centuries. The coordinated work includes pruning vines, harvesting grapes, and pressing them for sacramental wine, blending ancient monastic tradition with the practical skills of neighboring villagers. In parallel, the Romanian Orthodox Church laid the foundation for a new church dedicated to St. Gabriel of Georgia in Râmnicu Vâlcea, while the Bulgarian Patriarch Daniel met with King Abdullah II during his visit to a church in Fuheis, Jordan. The Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem also clarified its firm stance against outside interference at the Monastery of Agios Gerasimos. These separate efforts show how each local Church keeps its own rhythm of prayer, building, and quiet cooperation. Such steady, hands-on work keeps the faith rooted in daily life.

The church stands so bright against the clear sky. The yellow-white walls and dome look particularly striking next to this blue flag.

Жолтите ѕидови се чисто измазани, а на карнизот се гледа секоја цигла како е наместена. Куполот малку се сјае на сонце, а синиот флаг виси сосема мирно.

The light hits the side wall just right and you can see every little bump in the stucco. The roof looks solid too, no missing shingles.

The stone blocks on the church look like they were hewn by hand, you can see by the uneven edges. It must have lasted for years until they finished it at the end of the 19th century.

Yesterday after the evening service, Tanya and two other women cleaned all the candle holders and shelves in the church. I brought my old rags, while Tanya brought willow branches from home; we placed them in vases by the icons. My hands were sore, but the church became so clean that it was pleasant to enter.

Last week I tried a recipe for lentils with spinach for Lent and it turned out fantastic. I just sautéed onion, garlic, and tomato, added the cooked lentils, and finished with fresh spinach until it softened. My ten-year-old son asked to make it twice, and even my husband, who isn't much of a legume fan, asked me to make it soon. Tomorrow I'll bring some to church to share after the service.
