1) Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called an Apostle, set apart for the gospel of God, 2) which He first promised through His prophets in the holy Scriptures, 3) concerning His Son, who was made for Him by the seed of David according to the flesh, 4) Who was predestined to be the Son of God with power, according to the Spirit of sanctification, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord from the dead, 5) through whom we received grace and apostleship for the obedience of faith in all nations, for His name's sake, 6) among whom are you, who were called by Jesus Christ - 7) to all those who are beloved of God in Rome, who are called saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 8) First of all, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, for your faith is proclaimed throughout the whole world. 9) For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of His Son, that I continually make remembrance of you, 10) always in my prayers; praying that somehow I may finally be granted a successful path in the procession according to the will of God towards you.
11) For I long to see you, in order to impart to you some spiritual grace to strengthen you, 12) that is, to be comforted together with you, through what is mutually common to us, your faith and mine. 13) I do not want, brethren, to leave you ignorant, that I often intended to come to you (and was forbidden to me even until now) in order to have some fruit among you, as well as among other nations. 14) I am in debt to the Greeks and barbarians, the wise and the ignorant. 15) So, as for me, I am ready to preach the gospel to you who are in Rome. 16) For I do not blush because of the Gospel. After all, it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, firstly, to the Jew; [then] and Hellene. 17) For the righteousness of God is revealed in him from faith to faith, as it is written: “The righteous live by faith” (Hab. 2:4). 18) For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who delay the truth of God in unrighteousness. 19) For what can be known about God is obvious to them. For God showed it to them. 20) For His invisible [properties] from the creation of the world, through reflection on created things, are visible: both His ever-eternal power and Divinity; so they are inexcusable.
21) For when they, having known God, did not glorify [Him] as God, or did not give thanks; but they are futile in their thoughts, and their foolish heart is darkened; 22) For while they called themselves wise, they became fools. 23) And they changed the glory of the incorruptible God into the likeness of the image of corruptible man, and winged, and four-footed, and serpents. 24) For this reason God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts into uncleanness, so that they themselves would dishonor their own bodies; 25) [they] – who replaced the truth of God with lies; and worshiped and served the creature more than the Creator, Who is blessed forever. Amen. 26) Therefore God betrayed them in the passion of dishonor: for their women exchanged natural use for unnatural use; 27) Likewise, men, abandoning the natural use of women, became inflamed with their lust against each other, men committing shame on men, and receiving the retribution due for their error in themselves. 28) And since they were not content to have God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a perverse feeling - let them do what is inappropriate, 29) filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, fornication, greed, malice.
Full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; whisperers, 30) slanderers, abominations, insulters, proud, arrogant, inventive for evil, disobedient to parents, 31) reckless, unbalanced, insensitive, unable to negotiate, unmerciful. 32) Who, when they knew the righteousness of God, did not understand that those who practice such things are worthy of death; and not only those who do them, but also those who agree with those who do them!
1) For this reason, you are inexcusable, O every man who judges. For by the same judgment with which you judge another, you condemn yourself, for you do the same thing that you judge. 2) For we know that truly there is a judgment of God on those who do such things. 3) Don’t you think, O man, who condemns those who do such things and do such things, that you will escape the judgment of God? 4) Or do you neglect the riches of His goodness, and patience, and long-suffering, not realizing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance? 5) Because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, 6) Who will reward everyone according to his deeds: 7) to those who, by enduring a good deed, seek glory, and honor, and incorruptibility, eternal life; 8) to those who are stubborn in contradiction and do not rest in the truth, but believe untruth - anger and rage. 9) Tribulation and distress on every soul of a person who does evil, firstly the Jew, [then] the Greek! 10) Glory and honor and peace to everyone who does good, first to the Jew, [then] to the Greek! 11) For there is no partiality with God.
12) For all those who sinned without the Law will perish without the Law; and all those who have sinned under the Law will be judged according to the Law. 13) For it is not the hearers of the Law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the Law who will be justified. 14) For when the Gentiles, who do not have the Law, naturally do what is lawful, thus, not having the Law, they are a law unto themselves: 15) they show that the work of the Law is written in their hearts, of which their conscience and their thoughts give testimony, accusing or justifying one another, 16) on the day when God will judge the secret [deeds] of men, according to my gospel, through Jesus Christ. 17) If you are called a Jew and rest quietly in the Law, and boast in God, 18) and know His will, and experience what is most beneficial, instructed from the Law, 19) confident in yourself that you are a guide of the blind, a light for those in darkness, 20) a teacher of the ignorant, a teacher of babes, having an example of knowledge and truth in the Law. 21) Why don’t you teach yourself when you teach others? The one you say, “Don’t steal,” steal? 22) Whoever says, “You shall not commit adultery,” commits adultery?
Who abhors idols and commits sacrilege? 23) Who boasts in the Law and dishonors God by breaking the Law? 24) “For for your sake the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles” (Isa. 52:5; Ezek. 36:20), as it is written. 25) Circumcision is beneficial if you keep the Law; if you are a transgressor of the Law, then your circumcision has become uncircumcision. 26) Therefore, if an uncircumcised man keeps the righteousness of the Law, will not his uncircumcision be counted as circumcision to him? 27) And will not the uncircumcised man, who by nature keeps the Law, condemn you, a transgressor of the Law through the letter and circumcision? 28) For he who is [such] outwardly is not a Jew, nor is [that] outwardly, in the flesh, circumcision; 29) but he who is inwardly [such] is a Jew, and [that] circumcision [is] in the heart, in the spirit, not in the letter: his praise is not from men, but from God.
1) What is the advantage of being a Jew, or what is the benefit of circumcision? 2) Much in every way. Firstly, that they have been entrusted with the sayings of God. 3) For what if some of them did not believe? Will their unbelief devastate the faith of God? It won't happen. 4) God is faithful, but every man is a liar, as it is written: “May you be justified in Your words and overcome when you are judged” (Ps. 50:6). 5) If our untruth is committed to the truth of God, what shall we say? Wouldn't God be wrong to show anger? 6) (I speak from human reasoning). It won't happen. For otherwise, how will God judge this world? 7) For if the truth of God abounds in my lies to His glory, why am I also judged as a sinner? 8) And should we not do evil so that good may come out (as some slander us and say that we speak so)? Whose condemnation is righteous. 9) So, what? Shall we exalt them? No way. For we have already shown the reasons that both Jews and Greeks are all under sin, 10) as it is written: “For there is none righteous; 11) there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God. 12) Everyone has deviated, and together they have become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one” (Ps. 13:1–3).
13) “The open tomb is their throat; with their tongue they create deception; the poison of asps is under their lips” (Ps. 5:10, 139:3). 14) “Their lips are full of slander and bitterness” (Ps. 9:28). 15) “Their feet are swift to shed blood; 16) contrition and misfortune in their ways; 17) and they did not know the way of peace” (Prov. 1:16; Isa. 59:7–8). 18) “There is no fear of God before their eyes” (Ps. 36:2). 19) We know that whatever the Law says, it says to those who are under the Law, that all lips may be stopped, and that the whole world may be subject to God, 20) for by the works of the Law “no flesh will be justified in His sight” (Ps. 142:2). For through the Law there is knowledge of sin. 21) Now, without the Law, the righteousness of God has appeared, testified by the Law and the Prophets. 22) The righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ is to all and to all who believe in Him, for there is no difference, 23) for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
24) They are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25) whom God set forth as a propitiation through faith in His blood, for the manifestation of His righteousness through the remission of past sins, 26) in the forbearance of God, for the manifestation of His righteousness at this time, that He might be righteous and the justifier of him who is of the faith of Jesus Christ. 27) Where is your glorification? Excluded. What law? Business? No, but by the law of faith. 28) For we hold that a person is justified by faith without the works of the Law. 29) Is God only of the Jews? Is it not also the pagans? Of course, also the Gentiles, 30) because there is one God, who will justify the circumcision by faith and the uncircumcised through faith. 31) So, do we make void the Law by faith? Yes it will not; but we establish the Law.
1) What, say, did Abraham, our father according to the flesh, acquire? 2) For if Abraham was justified by works, he has praise, but not before God. 3) For what does Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness” (Gen. 15:6). 4) To the one who does, retribution is imputed not according to mercy, but according to duty. 5) To the one who does not, but who believes in Him who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness, according to the will of the grace of God. 6) Just as David calls blessed the person to whom God imputes righteousness without works: 7) “Blessed are those whose iniquities are forgiven and whose sins are covered. 8) Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not count sin” (Ps. 32:1-2). 9) So, does this blessedness last only for circumcision, or for uncircumcision? For we say that to Abraham faith was counted as righteousness. 10) How was it imputed? Circumcised or uncircumcised? Not in circumcision, but in uncircumcision.
11) And he received the sign of circumcision as a seal of righteousness through faith, which is in uncircumcision, so that he became the father of all who believe through uncircumcision, so that righteousness would be imputed to them; 12) and became the father of those who are circumcised, not those who are circumcised only, but also those who follow the steps of the faith which is in the uncircumcision of our father Abraham. 13) For the promise was not made by the Law to Abraham, or to his seed, that he should be heir of the world, but by the righteousness of faith. 14) For if [those] who are of the Law are heirs, faith has become vain, and the promise is ruined. 15) For the Law creates wrath. After all, where there is no Law, there is no crime. 16) Therefore, by faith, so that by grace the promise might be certain to every seed, not only to those who are of the Law, but to those who are by faith [the seed] of Abraham, who is the father of us all, 17) (as it is written: “For I have made you a father of many nations” [Gen. 17:4]), before God, whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and calls into existence things that are not, as existing. 18) Who, contrary to hope, believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to what was said to him: “So shall your seed [be] numerous” (Gen. 15:5).
19) And, not failing in faith, he did not consider his body to be dead when he was about a hundred years old, and Sarah was lying dead. 20) But he did not doubt the promise of God through unbelief, but was established in faith, giving glory to God; 21) knowing quite firmly that all that He promised He was able to do. 22) Therefore it was counted to him as righteousness. 23) It is not written in relation to him alone that it was counted to him as righteousness, 24) but also in relation to us; to whom will be counted as believers in Him who raised Jesus Christ our Lord from the dead, 25) Who was delivered up for our transgressions and was raised again for our justification.
1) Therefore, being justified by faith, let us have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2) through whom by faith we have access to that grace in which we stand and rejoice in hope of the glory of the children of God. 3) Not only that, but we also boast in tribulations, knowing that tribulation makes patience perfect, 4) patience is experience, and experience is hope, 5) hope does not put us to shame, for the love of God has been poured out into our hearts by the Holy Spirit given to us. 6) For why did Christ, while we were still weak, at the [established] time, die for the ungodly? 7) For hardly anyone will die for the righteous. Maybe someone dares to die for someone good. 8) But God adorned His love for us: because while we were yet sinners, at the [established] time, 9) Christ died for us; above all, now, having been justified by His Blood, we will be saved from wrath by Him. 10) For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, especially having been reconciled, we will be saved by His life. 11) Not only this, but we also glory in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.
12) Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into this world, and death through sin, so death spread to all men, in which all sinned. 13) For even before the Law sin was in the world; sin is not imputed when there is no Law. 14) But death reigned from Adam even to Moses and over those who did not sin, in the likeness of the crime of Adam, who is the image of the future. 15) But not like a crime, so is a gift; for if through the crime of one many were subjected to death, especially the grace of God and the gift by the grace of one Man, Jesus Christ, abounds in many. 16) And not as through one crime, so is the gift; for judgment for one [crime] leads to condemnation; grace leads to justification from many crimes. 17) For if through the crime of one death reigned through one, especially those who receive the abundance of grace and gift and righteousness in life will reign through one Jesus Christ. 18) Therefore, as through one crime there is condemnation for all men, so through one righteousness there is justification for life for all men.
19) For just as through one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so through one man’s obedience many will be made righteous. 20) The law made its way in so that crime would increase. Where sin abounded, grace abounded all the more, 21) so that as sin reigned in death, so grace might reign through righteousness into eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
1) What shall we say? Should we continue in sin so that grace may increase? 2) Yes it won’t. For we are dead to sin: how can we still live in it? 3) Do you not know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4) For we were buried with Him through baptism into death, so that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. 5) For if we are united with Him in the likeness of His death, at the same time we will also be in the likeness of the resurrection. 6) This knowing that our old man was crucified with [Him], so that the body of sin might be destroyed, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin. 7) For whoever dies is justified from sin. 8) If we are dead with Christ, we believe that we will live together with Him, 9) knowing that Christ, having risen from the dead, no longer dies: death no longer has power over Him. 10) For He died to sin, He died once; and what lives, lives for God. 11) So, behold, consider yourselves dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. 12) Therefore, let not sin reign in your mortal body, so that you obey its lusts.
13) But do not present your members to sin as weapons of unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as weapons of righteousness to God. 14) For sin should not have dominion over you, for you are not under the Law, but under grace. 15) What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the Law, but under grace? It won't happen! 16) Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves as slaves to obey, you are slaves to whom you obey: either sin leading to death, or obedience leading to righteousness? 17) Thanks be to God, that you, who were formerly slaves to sin, have obeyed from your heart the form of teaching to which you have given yourselves. 18) Freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. 19) I speak humanly for the sake of the weakness of your flesh; For just as you presented your members as slaves to uncleanness and iniquity, for iniquity, so now present your members as slaves for righteousness, for sanctification. 20) For while you were slaves to sin, you were free from righteousness. 21) What fruit did you have then in those [deeds] about which you now blush? After all, their end is death.
22) Now, having been freed from sin and become slaves of God, you have fruit in sanctification, and the end is eternal life. 23) For the wages of sin is death. The grace of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
1) Don’t you know, brothers (for I speak to those who know the Law), that the Law rules over a person as long as he lives? 2) For a married woman is bound to a living husband by the Law; if the husband dies, she is permitted by the law of the husband. 3) Therefore, while her husband is alive, she is called an adulteress if she marries another; If her husband dies, she is freed from the law of her husband, so that she will not be an adulteress if she marries another husband. 4) So you too, my brothers, died to the Law through the body of Christ, so that you may belong to another, the One who rose from the dead, so that we may bear fruit to God. 5) For while we were in the flesh, the passions of sin, [detected] by the Law, were at work in our members to bring fruit to death. 6) Now we have been freed from the law of death by which we were bound, so that we can serve [God] in the renewal of the spirit, and not in the decay of the letter. 7) What shall we say? Is the law a sin? It won't happen. But I knew sin no other way than through the Law; for I would not have known lust if the law had not said: “Thou shalt not covet.” 8) Having taken the occasion, sin from the commandment produced in me all kinds of lust: for without the Law sin was dead.
9) I once lived without the Law; but when the commandment came, sin came to life. 10) I died, and this commandment to life turned out to be death for me. 11) For sin, taking occasion from the commandment, deceived me and through it killed me. 12) Therefore, the Law is holy, and the commandment is holy, and righteous, and good. 13) So, what was good became deadly to me? It won't happen. But sin, in order to manifest itself as sin, causes death to me through good, so that sin becomes extremely sinful through the commandment. 14) For we know that the Law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin. 15) For what I do I do not understand: for I do not do what I want, but what I hate, what is evil, I do. 16) If I don’t want something, I do it; I agree with the law because it is good, 17) but now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. 18) For I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my flesh. For the desire is mine, but I cannot find it to do good. 19) For the good that I want, I do not do, but the evil that I do not want, I do. 20) If I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.
21) So, I find a law that when I want to do good, evil is present to me. 22) For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man; 23) I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my consciousness and making me captive of the law of sin, which is in my members. 24) Unhappy man I am, who will deliver me from this body of death?! – 25) The grace of my God, through Jesus Christ our Lord. So, with my consciousness I myself serve the Law of God, but with my flesh the law of sin.
1) There is now therefore no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, for they do not walk according to the flesh. 2) For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set me free from the law of sin and death. 3) For what was impossible for the Law, in which it was weakened by the flesh; God, having sent His Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for the sake of sin, condemned sin in the flesh, 4) and the justification of the Law was fulfilled in us, walking not in the flesh, but in the Spirit. 5) For those who are according to the flesh philosophize about carnal things, but those who are according to the Spirit have judgment about spiritual things. 6) For the wisdom of the flesh is death, but the wisdom of the spirit is life and peace, 7) because the wisdom of the flesh is hostile to God; for it is not subject to the Law of God, and indeed it cannot be. 8) Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. 9) You are not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. 10) If Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the spirit lives because of justification. 11) If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Jesus Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit’s dwelling in you.
12) Therefore, brethren, we are not debtors to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13) For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; But if you put to death the deeds of the flesh by the Spirit, you will live. 14) For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are sons of God. 15) For you did not receive the spirit of slavery, again in fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption as sons, in whom we cry: “Abba, Father!” 16) For the Spirit Himself bears witness to our spirit that we are sons of God. 17) If sons, [then] heirs, heirs moreover of God, and joint heirs with Christ; if we have compassion [with Him], then we will be glorified together. 18) For I think that the sufferings of this time are not worthy of comparison with the future glory that will be revealed in us. 19) For the expectation of creation awaits the revelation of the sons of God. 20) For the creation was subjected to vanity, not voluntarily, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope; 21) for the creation itself will be freed from the slavery of corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. 22) For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers together even to this day; 23) not only she, but we ourselves, having the firstfruits of the spirit, and we groan within ourselves, awaiting the adoption of the children of God, the redemption of our body. 24) For we are saved by hope.
The hope that is seen is not hope; for if anyone sees something, what should he hope for? 25) If we hope for what we do not see, we wait patiently. 26) In the same way the Spirit helps our weakness; for we do not know [what] we pray for as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings that cannot be expressed. 27) He who searches the hearts knows what the Spirit desires, for He intercedes for the saints according to God. 28) We know that all things work together for good to those who love God—to those who are called according to [His] purpose, to the saints. 29) For whom He foreknew He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30) Those whom He predestined, those He also called, and those He called, them He also justified; those whom he justified, he also glorified. 31) What can we say to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32) Who did not even spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all, how will He not also freely give us all things with Him? 33) Who will bring charges against God's elect? God who justifies. 34) Who will judge? Christ Jesus, who died, but who also rose again; Who is at the right hand of God, He also intercedes for us.
35) Who will separate us from the love of God? Sorrow? Is it cramped? Is it hungry? Is it nudity? Is it a danger? Is it persecution? Is it a sword? 36) As it is written: “For for Your sake we are killed every day; we are counted as sheep [doomed to] the slaughter” (Ps. 43:23). 37) But we overcome all this through Him who loved us. 38) For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor the present, nor the future, nor power, 39) nor height, nor depth, nor any other creation will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
1) I speak the truth in Christ, I do not lie, with the testimony of my conscience in the Holy Spirit, 2) because for me there is great sorrow, and unceasing sorrow in my heart. 3) For I myself would like to be “anathematized” from Christ, for the sake of my brothers, who are related to me in the flesh, 4) that is, the Israelites, to whom belong the adoption and the glory, and the covenant, and the legislation, and the worship, and the promises; 5) of whom both are the fathers, and of whom is Christ according to the flesh, who is God above all, blessed forever. Amen. 6) But it is not that the word of God did not come true: for not all those who are from Israel are Israelites; 7) and not all who are of the seed of Abraham are children, but [it is said]: “Your seed will be called in Isaac” (Gen. 21:12). 8) That is, not the children who are [according to] the flesh, these are the children of God, but those who are the children of the promise are counted as seed. 9) For the word of promise is: “According to this time I will come, and Sarah will have a son” (Gen. 18:10). 10) This is not the same thing; but also [when] Rebekah from one cohabitation had [in the womb] from Isaac our father [twins].
11) For when they had not yet been born or had done anything good or bad (so that the purpose of God by election might endure) 12) not from works, but from Him who Called, it was told to her that the older would be enslaved by the younger (Gen. 25:23), 13) as it is written: “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated” (Mal. 1:2-3). 14) So, what shall we say? Is it really not true with God? It won't happen. 15) For He says to Moses: “I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy; and I will show mercy on whom I will have mercy” (Ex. 33:19). 16) So, [the point] is not in [the one who] wants and runs, but in God who has mercy. 17) For the Scripture says to Pharaoh: “For this very purpose I raised you up, that I might show My power in you, and that My name might be proclaimed throughout all the earth” (Exodus 9:16). 18) So, he has mercy on whomever he wants; and he hardens whomever he wants. 19) So, you tell me: “What else is he seeking [guilt] for?! For who can resist His will? 20) Oh, man, who are you that you answer to God? Will the work really say to the one who created it: “Why did you make me like this?” 21) Does not the potter have power over the clay, so that from the same mass he can make one vessel for honorable [use], and another for low?
22) What if God, desiring to show wrath and make His power known, with great patience spared the vessels of wrath, which were prepared for destruction, 23) so that He might display the riches of His glory over the vessels of mercy, which He had prepared for glory? 24) Whom He called not only from the Jews, but also from the Gentiles, 25) as in Hosea he says: “I will call not my people my people, and not my beloved, beloved; and the one who was not found worthy of mercy, the one who was found worthy of mercy” (Hos. 2:23). 26) “And it will come to pass that in the place where it was said to them, ‘You are not my people,’ there they will be called sons of the living God” (Hos. 1:10). 27) Isaiah cries out about Israel: “Even though the children of Israel were as many as the sand of the sea, [only] a remnant will be saved; 28) for the word completes and shortens in righteousness, for the Lord will complete the shortened word on the earth” (Is. 10:22-23). 29) And, as Isaiah predicted: “If the Lord of hosts had not left us a seed, we would have become like Sodom, and like Gomorrah” (Is. 1:9). 30) What shall we say? That the pagans, who did not strive for righteousness, are captured by righteousness; righteousness comes from faith.
31) Israel, who strived for the Law of Righteousness, did not achieve the Law of Righteousness. 32) Why? Because not from faith, but, as it were, from works. For they stumbled over the stumbling block, 33) as it is written: “Behold, I lay in Zion a stumbling block and a rock of offense; and whoever believes in Him will not be put to shame” (Isa. 8:14, 28:16).
1) Brothers! The desire of my heart and prayer to God may it be for their salvation. 2) For I testify to them that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. 3) For, not knowing the righteousness of God and seeking to establish their own, they are not subject to the righteousness of God. 4) For the end of the Law is Christ for righteousness to everyone who believes. 5) For Moses writes that the righteousness that comes from the Law is this: “Whoever does it will live by it” (Lev. 18:5). 6) But the righteousness that comes from faith says this: “Do not say in your heart: “Who will ascend to heaven?” (Deut. 30:12), that is, to bring down Christ. 7) Or: “Who will descend into the abyss?” (Deut. 30:13), that is, to call Christ from the dead. 8) But what does Scripture say? “The word is near, in your mouth and in your heart” (Deut. 30:14), that is, the word of faith that we preach.” 9) For if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10) For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, but with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11) For Scripture says: “Whoever believes in Him will not be put to shame” (Isa. 28:16).
12) For there is no difference between Jew and Greek, for there is one Lord of all, rich to all who call on Him. 13) For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Joel 2:32). 14) How then will they call [Him] in whom they did not believe? Or how will they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? How will they hear without a preacher? 15) How will they preach if they are not sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news of peace, who bring good news!” (Isa. 52:7). 16) But not everyone obeyed the Gospel. For Isaiah says: “Lord! Who believed what they heard from us? (Isa. 53:1). 17) Faith therefore comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. 18) But I say: “Didn’t they hear? “And their message went out throughout all the earth, and to the ends of the circle of the earth their words” (Ps. 18:5).” 19) But I say: “Has Israel not known? The first Moses says: “I will stir you up to jealousy against a strange people; I will bring you to anger against a foolish people (Deut. 32:21).” 20) Isaiah dares and says: “I was found by those who did not seek Me; I appeared openly to those who did not ask about Me” (Is. 65:1).
21) To Israel he says: “All day long I have stretched out My hands to an unbelieving and rebellious people” (Isaiah 65:2).
1) So, I say: “Has God really rejected His people?” It won't happen. For I also am an Israelite, from the seed of Abraham, from the tribe of Benjamin. 2) God did not reject His people, whom He foreknew. Or don't you know what Scripture says about Elijah? How he complains to God about Israel: 3) “Lord! They have killed Your prophets, Your altars have been destroyed; but I am left alone, and they are looking for my life” (1 Kings 19:14). 4) What does God’s answer tell him? “I have left for Me seven thousand men who did not bow the knee to Baal” (1 Kings 19:18). 5) So at this time the remnant, according to the election of grace, is saved. 6) But if by grace, it is no longer by works; otherwise grace is not grace. 7) What then? Israel did not achieve what it sought; the elect reached, but the rest were blinded, 8) as it is written: “God has given them the spirit of gouging, eyes with which they do not see, and ears with which they do not hear, even to this day” (Deut. 29:4; Is. 29:10). 9) And David says: “Let their table be a snare, and a snare, and a temptation, and a retribution for them; 10) Let their eyes be darkened so that they cannot see, and let their spine be bent forever” (Ps. 69:23–24). 11) So, I say: “Did they really stumble that they might fall?” It won't happen.
But from their transgression the salvation of the pagans is to arouse jealousy in them. 12) For if their transgression is riches for the world, and their lack of wealth is riches for the Gentiles, how much more is their fullness? 13) For I speak to you Gentiles. How long will I, the Apostle of the Gentiles, honor my ministry, 14) will I somehow provoke my flesh to jealousy and save some of them? 15) For if their rejection is the reconciliation of the world, what will there be acceptance but life from the dead? 16) If the first fruit is holy, [then] so is the dough; and if the root is holy, [then] so are the branches. 17) If some of the branches were broken off, and you, a wild olive tree, were grafted into [the place of] them and became a sharer of the root and juice of the olive tree, 18) do not be proud of the branches. For if you are arrogant, [remember] that it is not you who bear the root, but the root of you. 19) You will say: “Branches were broken off so that I could be grafted in.” 20) Well, they broke off through unbelief. But you hold on by faith: do not think highly of yourself, but be afraid. 21) For if God did not spare the natural branches, perhaps he will not be merciless towards you.
22) So, you see the goodness and severity of God: for those who have fallen away - severity, but for you - the goodness of God, if you remain in goodness; otherwise you too will be cut off. 23) But even those, if they do not remain in unbelief, will be grafted in; God has the power to graft them in again. 24) For if you were cut off from a naturally wild olive tree and were grafted against nature into a good olive tree, how much more will these natural ones be grafted into their own olive tree? 25) For I do not want you, brethren, to be ignorant of this mystery, (so that you do not [highly] philosophize about yourself), that the blinding happened in part in Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles came; 26) and so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: “The Deliverer will come from Zion, and will turn away wickedness from Jacob. 27) And this covenant is from Me to them, when I take away their sins” (Isa. 27:9, 59:20–21). 28) Moreover, according to the gospel, they are enemies for your sake; by election they are beloved for the sake of the fathers. 29) For there is no repentance for the gifts and calling of God. 30) Just as you once did not believe in God, but now you have been deemed worthy of mercy because of their unbelief, 31) so now they also do not believe, for the sake of mercy towards you, so that they too may be worthy of mercy.
32) For God has imprisoned all in unbelief, that He might have mercy on all. 33) Oh, the depth of the wealth of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How incomprehensible are His judgments and unsearchable are His ways! 34) “For who has known the feeling of the Lord? Or who was His adviser? 35) Or who gave it to Him in advance, and will it be repaid to him?” (Isa. 40:13–14). 36) Because everything is from Him, and through Him, and in Him. To him be glory forever. Amen.
1) Therefore, I beg you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, [for] your reasonable service. 2) And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your feelings, so that you may prove that the will of God is good and acceptable and perfect. 3) For I say, by the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you: Do not think more highly of yourself than you ought to think; but think soberly, according to the measure of faith that God has allocated to everyone. 4) For just as we have many members in one body, but not all the members have the same function, 5) so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and each one individually is one member of another. 6) We have different gifts, according to the grace given to us: or prophecy, according to the understanding of faith; 7) or service in ministry; or who teaches, in teaching; 8) or who exhorts, in exhortation; whoever distributes, in simplicity; who is the boss, with care; whoever shows mercy, with cordiality.
9) Love [let there be] without pretense, turning away from evil, clinging to good; 10) love one another with brotherly love; warn one another in respect; 11) do not weaken in zeal; be on fire in spirit; Serve the Lord; 12) rejoice in hope; in sorrow [be] patient, in prayer - steadfast; 13) take part in the needs of the saints; follow hospitality. 14) Bless those who persecute you; bless, not curse. 15) Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep! 16) Have the same feeling for each other as you do for yourself; do not philosophize, but agree with the humble. Don't be selfish; 17) without repaying anyone evil for evil, take care of what is good not only before God, but also before all people. 18) If possible, as far as depends on you, have peace with all people. 19) Do not defend yourselves, beloved, but give room to [God’s] wrath. For it is written: “Vengeance is mine; I will repay, says the Lord” (Deut. 32:35). 20) So, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink: for by doing this you will heap burning coals on his head” (Prov. 25:22–23).
21) Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
1) Let every soul be submissive to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God; which are, ordained by God. 2) So, he who resists authority resists God’s decree. Those who resist will bring condemnation upon themselves. 3) For those in authority are not a terror to good deeds, but to evil deeds. Do you want not to be afraid of power? Do good and you will receive praise from her. 4) For he is God's servant, for your good. If you do evil, be afraid, for he carries a sword for a reason: he is God's servant, an avenger in anger of those who do evil. 5) And therefore, if necessary, obey not only out of [fear of] anger, but also out of conscience. 6) For this reason you pay taxes, for they are God’s servants, constantly serving Him. 7) So, give everyone their due: give to whom, give; to whom a fee - a fee; to whom fear is fear; to whom honor is honor. 8) Do not owe anyone anything except mutual love; For he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the Law. 9) For: “Thou shalt not commit adultery,” “Thou shalt not kill,” “Thou shalt not steal,” “Thou shalt not bear false witness,” “Thou shalt not covet...” (see Ex. 20:13–17; Deut.
5:17–21) and, if there is any other commandment, is restored in this word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself” (Lev. 19:18). 10) Love for one's neighbor does no harm; So, love is the fullness of the Law. 11) And even more so knowing the time, that the hour has already come for us to get up from sleep. For salvation is closer to us now than when we believed. 12) The night has passed, but the day has approached. Let us therefore reject the works of darkness and put on the weapons of light. 13) Let us act decently as in the daytime: not in feasts and drinking bouts, not in lust and impurity, not in discord and jealousy; 14) But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and have no concern for the flesh's lusts.
1) Accept him who is weak in the faith without arguing about reasoning. 2) For some are sure that he can eat everything, but let the weak eat greens. 3) He who eats, do not disparage the one who does not eat; and whoever does not eat, do not condemn the one who eats, for God has accepted him. 4) Who are you, judging another man's slave? Before his Lord he stands, or he falls. He will arise, for God is able to raise him up. 5) For some reason, [distinguishing] day from day, while others judge every day [equally]. Let everyone, according to his own feelings, abound. 6) He who philosophizes about the days philosophizes for the Lord. Whoever eats eats for the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and whoever does not eat does not eat for the Lord, and thanks God. 7) For none of us lives for himself, and none of us dies for himself. 8) Whether we live, we live for the Lord; Whether we die, we die for the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord's. 9) For this is why Christ died and rose again, that he might rule over both the dead and the living. 10) Why are you judging your brother? Or why do you humiliate your brother? After all, we will all appear before the judgment seat of Christ.
11) For it is written: “As I live,” says the Lord, “every knee will bow to Me, and every tongue will confess to God” (Isa. 45:23). 12) So, each of us will give an account for ourselves to God. 13) Let us no longer judge each other, but rather judge how not to give your brother [opportunities] for stumbling or temptation. 14) I know and am confident in the Lord Jesus that nothing in itself is unclean; except to the one who considers something unclean, it is unclean for him. 15) If your brother is upset for the sake of food, you are no longer acting out of love. Do not destroy with your food the one for whom Christ died. 16) So, let not our good be blasphemed. 17) For the kingdom of God is not food and drink, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. 18) For whoever serves Christ in this way pleases God and is tested by men. 19) Let us therefore follow what serves peace; and let us observe what serves for edification towards one another. 20) For the sake of food, do not destroy the work of God, although everything is pure; but it is bad for the man who eats stumbling.
21) It is good not to eat meat, not to drink wine, and not to do anything that causes your brother to stumble, or to be offended, or to become weak. 22) Do you have faith? Have it within yourself, before God. Blessed is he who does not condemn himself for what he experiences. 23) Whoever discerns, if he eats, is condemned because he does not eat it by faith. Whatever is not of faith is sin.
1) We, the strongest, must endure the weaknesses of the powerless, and not please ourselves. 2) Each of you must please your neighbor for good and edification. 3) For Christ did not please Himself, but, as it is written: “The reproaches of those who reproached You fell on Me” (Ps. 68:10). 4) Everything that was written was written for our instruction, so that through patience and the consolation of the Scriptures we might have hope. 5) May the God of patience and consolation grant you to be of one mind with each other, according to the [teachings] of Jesus Christ, 6) so that with one accord, with one mouth, you may honor the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. 7) For this reason, accept each other, just as Christ accepted you in honor of God. 8) For I say that Jesus Christ was the minister of the circumcision, for the truth of God, to confirm the promises to the fathers, 9) [for] the Gentiles - for the sake of mercy, so that they glorify God, as it is written: “Therefore I will praise You, O Lord, among the Gentiles, and will sing to Your name” (2 Sam. 22:50; Ps. 17:50). 10) And again it is said: “Rejoice, O Gentiles, with His people” (Deut. 32:43 LXX). 11) And again: “Praise the Lord, all pagans, and magnify Him, all nations” (Ps. 116:1).
12) And Isaiah again says: “There will be a root of Jesse, and He will arise to rule the nations; the Gentiles will trust in Him” (Isa. 11:1, 10, 42:4). 13) May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope and in the power of the Holy Spirit. 14) And I myself am confident about you, my brothers, because you too are full of love, full of all knowledge, so that you can instruct one another. 15) With greater boldness I wrote to you, brethren, partly as if to remind you, according to the grace given to me from God, 16) that I might be a minister of Jesus Christ among the Gentiles; holy the gospel of God, that the offering of the Gentiles might be acceptable and sanctified by the Holy Spirit. 17) Therefore I have praise in Christ Jesus before God. 18) For I do not dare to say what Christ did not do through me, for the obedience of the Gentiles, in word and deeds, 19) by the power of signs and wonders, and by the power of the Spirit of God, so that from Jerusalem and the surrounding area, even to Illyricum, I filled with the Gospel of Christ.
20) I preached this Gospel in this way [so as not to preach the gospel there] where Christ was named, so as not to build on someone else’s foundation, 21) but as it is written: “To whom it was not preached they will see, and those who have not heard will understand” (Isa. 52:15). 22) For this reason, it prevented me from coming to you many times, and it was forbidden to me even until now. 23) Now, having no longer a place in these countries, but having the desire to come to you, already from many previous years, 24) as soon as I begin to advance to Spain, I hope that, as I pass, I will see you, and that you will take me there, if first I enjoy communication with you, at least partially. 25) Now I am moving to Jerusalem to minister to the saints, 26) for Macedonia and Achaia experienced pleasure in making a collection for the poor saints who are in Jerusalem. 27) For [it] pleases them, and they are debtors to them. For if the pagans have become participants in their spiritual things, they must also serve them in their physical things. 28) So, when I have fulfilled this and sealed this fruit with them, I will go through your [places] to Spain, 29) I know that when I come to you, I will come with the abundance of the blessing of the gospel of Christ.
30) Therefore, I beseech you, brethren, through our Lord Jesus Christ and through the love of the Holy Spirit, that you may help me in your prayers for me to God, 31) that I may be delivered from the unbelievers who are in Judea, and that the offering of my service may be acceptable to the saints in Jerusalem, 32) that I may come to you with joy, according to the will of God, and chill with you. 33) May the God of peace be with you all. Amen.
1) I entrust to you Thebes, our sister, who is in the service of the church, which is in Cenchreae; 2) so that you accept her in the Lord, [as] worthy of the saints, and help her in everything that she needs from you, for she herself helped many and myself. 3) Greet Prisca [Priscam] and Aquila, my helpers in Christ Jesus 4) (who laid down their necks for my life, to whom not only I thank, but also all the churches [of] the Gentiles), 5) and their home church. Greet my beloved Epenetus, who is the firstfruits of Asia in Christ. 6) Salute Mary, who worked hard among you. 7) Greet Andronicus and Junia, my relatives and fellow prisoners, who are noble among the Apostles and were in Christ before me. 8) Greet Amplius, my beloved in the Lord. 9) Greet Urban our helper in Christ Jesus, and Stachys my beloved. 10) Greet Apelles, tested in Christ. 11) Greet [the faithful] from the house of Aristobulus. Greet Herodion, my kinsman. Greet those of the household of Narcissus who are in the Lord.
12) Greet Tryphena and Tryphos, who labor for the Lord. Greet beloved Persis, who has labored much for the Lord. 13) Greet Rufus, the chosen one in the Lord, and his mother and mine. 14) Greet Asinkrit, Flegont, Hermas, Patrov, Hermias and those who are with them, brothers. 15) Greet the Philologist and Julia, Nireus and his sister, and Olympias, and all the saints who are with them. 16) Greet each other with a holy kiss. All the churches of Christ greet you. 17) I urge you, brethren, to beware of those who cause disagreement and stumbling, contrary to the teaching which you have learned, and turn away from them. 18) For this kind [of people] serve not Christ our Lord, but their own belly, and with sweet words and blessings they deceive the hearts of the innocent. 19) For your obedience is known in every place. Therefore I rejoice for you. But I wish you to be wise in good and simple in evil. 20) The God of peace will crush Satan under your feet soon. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you! 21) Timothy, my assistant, and Lucius, and Jason, and Sosipater, my relatives, greet you.
22) (I greet you [and] I, Tertius, who wrote [this] epistle, in the Lord). 23) Guy, my stranger, and the whole church greet you. Erast, the city treasurer, and Quart, brother, greet you. 24) The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. 25) To him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, through the revelation of the mystery, which was kept silent from time immemorial, 26) (which has now been revealed through the Scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the eternal God, for the obedience of faith), known to all nations, 27) to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, to whom be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
