Послание к Евреям св. Апостола Павла

Machine translation from the original · Show original
1) God, who spoke many times and in various ways of old to the fathers in the prophets, 2) finally, in these days, spoke to us in the Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom he created the worlds. 3) Who, when He is the radiance of glory and the image of His Person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, having accomplished the cleansing of our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, 4) being made so much more excellent than the angels, inasmuch as He inherited a name more excellent than them. 5) For to whom of the Angels did [God] say: “You are My Son, today I have begotten You”? (Ps. 2:7). And again: “I will be His Father, and He will be My Son”? (2 Samuel 7:14). 6) And again, when he introduces the Firstborn into the circle of the earth, he says: “And let all the Angels of God worship Him” (Ps. 97:7). 7) And it was to the Angels that He said: “He who makes His angels spirits and His servants is a flame of fire” (Ps. 103:4). 8) To the Son: “Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever; the scepter of righteousness is the scepter of your kingdom. 9) You loved righteousness and hated iniquity; therefore, O God, Your God anointed You with the oil of joy more than Your fellows” (Ps. 45:7-8). 10) And: “In the beginning, O Lord, You founded the earth, and the works of Your hands are the heavens; 11) they will perish, but You will remain; and they will all wear out like a robe, 12) and you will roll them up like a cloak, and they will be changed; but You are the same, and Your years will not fail” (Ps. 102:26–28). 13) To which of the Angels did [God] say: “Sit at My right hand, until I make Your enemies Your footstool”? (Ps. 109:1). 14) Are they not all ministering spirits sent to serve for the sake of those who will receive the inheritance of salvation? 1) Therefore, it is appropriate for us to carefully observe what we hear, so that we are not accidentally carried away by the current. 2) For if through the Angels the proclaimed word became firm, and every crime and disobedience received the righteous reward of retribution, 3) how can we escape if we neglect such salvation? Which, having taken the beginning of the proclamation from the Lord, by those who heard [from Him] was established in us, 4) with the co-witnessing of God with signs and wonders, and various powers, and the dispensing of the Holy Spirit according to His will. 5) For God did not subjugate the future circle of the earth that we are talking about to the Angels. 6) Someone testified somewhere, saying: “What is man, that You remember him? Or son of man, that You visit him? 7) You have made him a little lower than the Angels; You crowned him with glory and honor, and set him over the works of Your hands, 8) You put all things in subjection under his feet” (Ps. 8:5-7). For in all that he subordinated to him, he left nothing unsubordinate to him. Now we still do not see that everything has been subjugated to him. 9) But the One who was a little lower than the angels, Jesus, we see crowned with glory and honor through the passion of death; so that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone. 10) For it was fitting that He, for whom are all things and from whom are all things, bringing many sons to glory, should bring about the author of their salvation through suffering. 11) For both he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all from One. For this reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren, saying: 12) “I will proclaim Your name to My brethren; in the midst of the church I will praise You” (Ps. 21:23). 13) And again: “I will trust in Him.” And again: “Here I am and my children whom God has given Me” (Isa. 8:17–18). 14) Therefore, just as children are partakers of flesh and blood, He Himself also became partaker of them in the same way, so that by death He might defeat the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, 15) and deliver those who from the fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives. 16) For nowhere will He receive angels, but He will receive the seed of Abraham. 17) Therefore, He had to become like the brethren in everything, in order to become a merciful and faithful high priest before God, to make propitiation for the crimes of the people. 18) For in that which He Himself suffered and was tempted, He is able to help those who are tempted. 1) Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider Jesus the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, 2) who is faithful to Him who created Him, as Moses was in all His house. 3) For He was considered worthy of all the more glory before Moses, inasmuch as the one who built it had more honor than the house. 4) For every house is made by someone; He who created everything is God. 5) And it is Moses who is faithful in all His house, as a minister, to testify to what was to be declared; 6) Christ is like a Son in His house; Whose house is we, if only we firmly hold the confidence and praise of hope even to the end. 7) Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you hear His voice, 8) do not harden your hearts, as in bitterness, in the day of temptation in the wilderness, 9) where your fathers tempted Me, tested Me, and saw My works 10) forty years. For this reason I was angry with this generation and said: “They always err in heart. They have not known My ways; 11) as I swore in My wrath, will they ever enter My rest” (Ps. 95:7-11). 12) See, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unfaithfulness, leading to apostasy from the living God. 13) But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called: “Today,” so that none of you will become stubborn in the delusion of sin. 14) For we have become partakers of Christ, if only we hold fast the firstfruits of His composition even to the end, 15) until it is said: “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts, as in that bitterness.” 16) For some of those who heard were embittered; but not all who came out of Egypt through Moses. 17) With whom was He indignant for forty years? Is it not those who sinned, whose corpses fell in the wilderness? 18) To whom did he swear that they would not enter His rest, if not because they were unfaithful? 19) And we see that they could not enter because of unbelief. 1) Let us therefore be afraid, lest, if we forsake the promise of entering into His rest, any of you might be counted as having remained without it. 2) For it was announced to us as well as to those; but the word they heard did not bring them any benefit, not dissolved by faith in what they heard. 3) For we who have believed enter into rest, since He said: “As I swore in My wrath, shall they enter into My rest” (Ps. 94:11), namely, having completed [His] works from the beginning of the world. 4) For he speaks in a certain place about the seventh day like this: “And God rested on the seventh day from all His work” (Gen. 2:2). 5) And also in that [place]: “Shall they enter My rest.” 6) Because it remains for some to enter into it, and those to whom it was first told did not enter [it] because of unbelief, 7) He also determines a certain day, “Today,” speaking through David, after such a long time, as it is said above: “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.” 8) For if Joshua [Joshua] had given them rest, another day would never have been spoken of after that. 9) Therefore the Sabbath remains for the people of God. 10) For whoever has entered into His rest has also rested from his own works, just as God did from His. 11) Therefore, let us hasten to enter this rest, lest anyone fall into the same example of infidelity. 12) For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword: it penetrates even to the division of soul and spirit, joints and marrow, and discerns the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13) And there is no creature invisible before His sight, yet everything is naked and open before His eyes: our speech is to Him. 14) Therefore, since we have a great High Priest who has penetrated through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast the confession. 15) For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in all things, being like unto us, yet without sin. 16) Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may be counted worthy of mercy and find grace to help in time of need. 1) For every high priest, taken from men, is appointed for men to belong to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins, 2) able to condescend to the ignorant and lost, because he himself is overcome with infirmities, 3) and therefore he must offer [sacrifices] for sins both for the people and for himself. 4) And no one arrogates honor of his own accord, but he who is called by God, like Aaron. 5) So Christ did not glorify Himself to be the High Priest, but Who said to Him: “You are My Son, today I have begotten You” (Ps. 2:7). 6) In what way and in another place does he say: “You [Tu es] are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek” (Ps. 109:4). 7) He, in the days of His flesh, offered prayers and supplications to Him who was able to save Him from death with a strong cry and with tears; He was heard for His respect; 8) and although He was the Son of God, He learned obedience through what He suffered; 9) and, having been perfected, became the cause of eternal salvation for all who obey Him, 10) being called by God High Priest after the order of Melchizedek. 11) You can tell us a lot about this and it cannot be explained in speech, because you have become incapable of listening. 12) And when, judging by the time, you should have been teachers; you again need to be taught the first principles of the word of God, and become such that you need milk, not solid food. 13) For everyone who is fed with milk is ignorant of the word of righteousness, for he is a child. 14) Solid food is characteristic of the perfect, whose senses are trained by skill to distinguish between good and evil. 1) For this reason, leaving the word of the firstfruits of Christ, let us move on to the most perfect; not again laying the foundation for repentance from dead works and faith in God, 2) the doctrine of baptisms, the laying on of hands, and the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. 3) And we will do this, if only God allows. 4) For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, also tasted the heavenly gift, and became partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5) tasted, nevertheless, the good word of God and the powers of the coming age, 6) and were fallen away, to be renewed again to repentance, when they again crucify the Son of God within themselves and expose [Him] to shame. 7) For the earth, which has drunk the rain that falls on it many times and produces grain that is useful to those by whom it is cultivated, receives a blessing from God; 8) the producing thorns and thistles are rejected and are close to a curse, the end of which is burning. 9) We hope for you, beloved, that you are in a better [condition] and closer to salvation, although we say so. 10) For God is not unjust to forget your work and the love that you have shown in His name, who have served and are serving the saints. 11) We desire that each of you take the same care to fulfill hope even to the end, 12) so that you do not become lazy, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises. 13) And therefore God, making a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater to swear by, swore by himself, 14) saying: “If only by blessing I will bless you and by multiplying I will multiply you” (Gen. 22:17). 15) And so [Abraham] was long-suffering and was made worthy of the promise. 16) For people swear by great things above themselves, and to every dispute they have, the limit is an oath. 17) In which [and] God, wishing to more abundantly show to the heirs of the promise the immutability of His advice / decision /, used an oath as a means, 18) so that in two immutable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we, who have resorted to take hold of the hope set before us, may have the firmest consolation, 19) which we have for the soul, like an anchor safe and strong, and entering especially the interior behind the veil, 20) where Jesus entered as a forerunner for us, becoming a High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek forever. 1) For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham returning after the defeat of the kings, and blessed him, 2) to whom Abraham divided tithes from everything - firstly, he is translated precisely “king of righteousness”, then [he] and king of Salem, that is, “king of peace”, 3) without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, becoming like the Son of God, he remains a priest forever. 4) You see what he is like to whom Abraham the patriarch gave tithes of the most important things. 5) And behold, those who receive the priesthood from the sons of Levi have a commandment to take tithes according to the law from the people, that is, from their brothers, although they themselves came from the loins of Abraham. 6) This one, whose family is not numbered among them, received tithes from Abraham and blessed him who had the promises. 7) Without any contradiction, the smaller is blessed by the larger. 8) And it is here that mortal men receive tithes, and there he who has a testimony about himself that he lives. 9) And, so to speak, through Abraham and Levi, who received tithes, gave tithes: 10) for he was still in the loins of his father when Melchizedek met him. 11) So, if perfection were achieved through the Levitical priesthood - for the people under it received the Law - then what further need would there be for another priest to rise up after the order of Melchizedek, and not be called after the order of Aaron? 12) For with the transfer of the priesthood it is necessary that there should also be a transfer of the Law. 13) For He of whom this is spoken belonged to another tribe, from which no one stood at the altar. 14) For it is clear that our Lord shone forth from Judah, about which tribe Moses said nothing concerning priests. 15) And this is even more clearly seen: if in the likeness of Melchizedek another Priest arises, 16) Who is such not according to the Law of the carnal commandment, but according to the power of indestructible life. 17) For it is testified: “For Thou art [Tu es] a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek.” 18) Rejection of the previous commandment occurs because of its weakness and uselessness, 19) for the Law did not lead to anything perfect; was the introduction of a better hope, through which we draw closer to God. 20) And since [this] was not without an oath, some became priests without an oath, 21) This one with an oath, through Him who said to Him: “The Lord has sworn, and He will not repent: You are a priest forever,” - 22) To this extent, Jesus became the surety of a better covenant. 23) But there were many other priests, because death did not allow him to remain [alone]; 24) This one, since he remains forever, has an ever-eternal priesthood. 25) Therefore He is able to save forever those who come to God through Himself, always living to intercede for us. 26) For this is what our High Priest should be: holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners and exalted above the heavens, 27) who does not need daily, like [those] priests, first to offer sacrifices for his crimes, then for the people, for He did this once, sacrificing Himself. 28) For the Law appoints as high priests those who have infirmities; and the word of oath, which is after the Law, is the Son, perfect forever. 1) The main thing is what it says: we have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, 2) a minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man. 3) For every high priest is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices; and therefore it was necessary that He also had something to bring. 4) So, if He were on earth, He would not be a priest, because there are those who bring gifts according to the Law, 5) who serve as an example and shadow of the heavenly. As Moses was answered when he made the tabernacle: “See,” says [the Lord], “do everything according to the example that was shown to you on the mountain” (Ex. 25:40). 6) Now He has received by lot a ministry that is all the more excellent, inasmuch as He is a better Mediator and a Covenant, which is established on better promises. 7) For if this first one were without guilt, there would be no need to look for a place for another. 8) For, rebuking them, [the prophet] says: “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, 9) not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, because they did not continue in [that] covenant, and I despised them, says the Lord. 10) For this is the covenant that I will establish for the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will give My laws in their minds, and I will write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they will be My people. 11) And every man shall not teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, “Know the Lord”; because all of them will know Me, from the least and even to the greatest, 12) for I will be merciful to their iniquities, and their sins will not be remembered” (Jer. 31:31-34). 13) By saying “new,” he made the first one old. What decays and grows old is close to destruction. 1) He had both the first [Testament] of justification for worship and the worldly sanctuary. 2) For first the tabernacle was built, in which were candlesticks, and a table, and an offering of bread, which is called the Holy Place. 3) Behind the second veil is the tabernacle, called the Holy of Holies, 4) having a golden censer and the Ark of the Covenant, overlaid on all sides with gold, in which were a golden vessel with manna, and Aaron's rod that flourished, and the tablets of the covenant, 5) and above it are the cherubim of glory, overshadowing the atonement; which does not need to be discussed in detail now. 6) With such a structure, the priests always enter the first tabernacle, performing the services of sacrifices; 7) in the second - once a year only the high priest, not without blood, which he brings for himself and for the ignorance of the people. 8) By this the Holy Spirit signifies that the way into the sanctuary has not yet been opened while the first tabernacle stands, 9) which is a parable of the present time, according to which gifts and sacrifices are offered, which cannot make the servant perfect in conscience, they are only with food and drink, 10) and various washings, and carnal righteousness, are imposed only until the time of correction. 11) Christ, the High Priest of future blessings, having come with a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is, not of such a dispensation, 12) and not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood, once entered the sanctuary, having found eternal redemption. 13) For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the defiled, sanctifies to cleanse the flesh, 14) how much more will the Blood of Christ, who through the Holy Spirit offered Himself blameless to God, cleanse our conscience from dead works to serve the living God? 15) And therefore He is the Mediator of the New Testament, so that through [His former] death for redemption from their crimes committed under the first Testament, those who are called may receive the promise to an eternal inheritance. 16) For where there is a will, it is necessary that the death of the testator occur, 17) because the will is approved on the dead / etc. e. valid after the dead/: otherwise it has no force as long as the testator is alive. 18) Why the first [Testament], for its part, was not dedicated without blood. 19) For after Moses had read every commandment of the Law to all the people, he took the blood of bulls and goats with water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled the book itself and all the people, 20) saying: “This is the blood of the covenant which God commanded you” (Exodus 24:8). 21) He also sprinkled the tabernacle and all the liturgical vessels in a similar manner with blood. 22) Yes, and according to the Law, almost everything is cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness /forgiveness/. 23) So, the images of the heavenly had to be purified with these, and the heavenly itself with better sacrifices than these. 24) For Christ entered not into a sanctuary made with hands, built in the image of the truest, but into heaven itself, to appear now for us in the presence of God, 25) and not in order to offer Himself many times, as the high priest enters into the sanctuary annually with the blood of others; 26) otherwise He would have had to suffer many times since the beginning of the world; Now, once, to the end of the ages, He appeared as His sacrifice for the destruction of sin. 27) And just as it is appointed for men to die once, after which comes judgment, 28) so Christ, having once offered Himself as a sacrifice to take away the sins of many, will appear a second time without sin /i.e. that is, not for the atonement of sin / for those who wait for Him, for salvation. 1) For the Law, having a shadow of future benefits, [and] not the very image of things, every year with the same sacrifices constantly offered, can never make those who come perfect; 2) otherwise they would stop bringing, because the bringers, once cleansed, would no longer have any awareness of their sins; 3) but in them there is a reminder of sins every year. 4) For it is impossible to take away sins with the blood of bulls and goats. 5) Therefore [Christ], entering the world, says: “You did not desire sacrifices and offerings, but you prepared a body for Me; 6) Burnt offerings for sin are displeasing to You. 7) Then I said: “Behold, I come; in the beginning of the book it is written about Me, that I may do Your will, O God”” (Ps. 39:7-8). 8) Having said above, “that You did not desire sacrifices, offerings, or burnt offerings for sin, and they are displeasing to You,” [those] that are offered according to the Law, 9) then he said: “Behold, I come, let me do Your will, O God.” Cancels the first to establish the next. 10) By this will we are sanctified one day by the offering of the body of Jesus Christ. 11) And every priest stands in daily service, repeatedly offering the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12) This one, having offered one sacrifice for sins, sat down at the right hand of God forever, 13) otherwise waiting until His enemies were made His footstool. 14) For by one offering He made perfect those who were sanctified forever. 15) The Holy Spirit also bears witness to us. For afterwards he says: 16) “This is the covenant that I will bequeath to them after those days,” says the Lord: “I have given My laws into their hearts, and I will write them on their minds, 17) and I will remember their sins and iniquities no more” (Jer. 31:33). 18) Where are they left? There is no longer any offering for them. 19) Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter into the sanctuary by the blood of Christ, 20) by which He began a new and living way for us through the veil, that is, through His flesh, 21) and the great Priest over the house of God, 22) let us draw near with a sincere heart in the fullness of faith, having sprinkled our hearts [to cleanse] ourselves from an evil conscience, and having washed our bodies with clean water, 23) Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. 24) And let us be attentive to one another, encouraging one another to love and good deeds, 25) not abandoning our meeting together, as is the custom of some; but comforting, and the more [more] you see the day approaching. 26) For if we, after receiving the knowledge of the truth, sin voluntarily, there remains no more sacrifice for sins, 27) but a certain terrible expectation of judgment and the fury of fire that will devour the adversaries. 28) He who abolished the Law of Moses, with two or three witnesses, dies without any mercy; 29) How severe a punishment do you think he deserves who tramples on the Son of God, and causes the Blood of the Covenant, by which he was sanctified, to be desecrated, and insults the Spirit of grace? 30) For we know the One who said: “Vengeance is Mine, and I will repay.” And again: “For the Lord will judge His people” (Deut. 32:35–36). 31) It’s scary to fall into the hands of the living God! 32) Remember the previous days, in which you, [being] enlightened, endured the great struggle of passion-bearing, 33) and for some you became a spectacle in reproach and sorrow, for others you became partners in a similar situation. 34) For you had compassion for your bonds, and you accepted the theft of your goods with joy, knowing that you had better and lasting property. 35) So do not abandon your hope, which has a great reward. 36) You need patience so that, by doing the will of God, you may be worthy of the promises. 37) For a little while, a very little, and the Coming One will come and will not tarry. 38) My righteous man lives by faith; if he retreats, he will not please my soul. 39) We are not the sons of apostasy to destruction, but of faith to gain a soul. 1) Faith is the essence of what is expected, the argument of the implicit. 2) For of this the ancients received testimony. 3) By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that what was invisible became visible. 4) By faith Abel offered God a more abundant sacrifice than Cain; by it he received evidence that he was righteous, when God testified about his gifts; and, having died from it, speaks again. 5) By faith Enoch was translated so that he did not see death; and he was no more, for God had translated him. For before his migration he received a testimony that he pleased God. 6) Without faith it is impossible to please God. For he who comes to God must believe that He exists, and that He is the Rewarder of those who seek Him. 7) By faith Noah, having received the answer of what had not yet been seen, trembling, prepared an ark for the salvation of his house; by it he condemned the world, and became heir to the righteousness that is by faith. 8) By faith he who was called Abraham obeyed [the call] to go to the country which he had to receive as an inheritance; and he set out, not knowing where he was going. 9) By faith he dwelt in the promised land as if it were a stranger, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, joint heirs of the same promise. 10) For he looked for a city that has foundations, whose maker and maker is God. 11) By faith even the barren Sarah herself received the power to conceive from the seed, even despite the time of her age, for she believed that He who promised was faithful. 12) For this reason and from one (and, moreover, a dead one), as many were born as there are many stars in the sky, and as the sand on the seashore is countless. 13) All these fell asleep by faith, not receiving the promises, but seeing them from afar, and greeted [them], and confessed that they were strangers and strangers on earth. 14) For [those] who say this signify that they are seeking the fatherland. 15) And if they themselves remembered [the fatherland] from which they came, then they would have time to return; 16) now they desire the best, that is, the heavenly. Therefore God is not ashamed to call Himself their God: for He has prepared a city for them. 17) By faith Abraham sacrificed Isaac when he was tempted, and offered his only begotten, having received the promise, 18) about whom it was said: “For in Isaac your seed will be called” (Gen. 21:12), 19) believing that God is able to raise him from the dead, which is why he accepted him as a parable. 20) Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau by faith in future [goods]. 21) By faith Jacob, dying, blessed every son of Joseph, and he bowed to the top of his staff. 22) By faith Joseph, when he died, recalled the exodus of the children of Israel, and gave commandment about his bones. 23) By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden by his parents for three months, because they saw the beautiful child and were not afraid of the king’s command. 24) By faith Moses, having become a great man, refused to be the son of Pharaoh's daughter, 25) and preferred to suffer with the people of God rather than have the temporary pleasure of sin, 26) and considered the reproach of Christ to be greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt; for he looked to the reward. 27) By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king’s wrath, for he endured it as if he had seen the Invisible One. 28) By faith he celebrated the Passover and the shedding of blood, so that the destroyer of the firstborn would not touch them. 29) By faith they crossed the Red / Red / Sea, as on dry land - which, having encroached, the Egyptians were swallowed up [by the abyss]. 30) By faith the walls of Jericho fell during a seven-day march. 31) By faith Rahab the harlot did not perish with the unbelievers, having received the spies in peace. 32) And what else will I say? For I do not have enough time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel and the prophets, 33) who by faith conquered kingdoms, did righteousness, received promises, stopped the mouth of lions, 34) quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, became strong from weakness, became strong in war, drove out camps strangers; 35) women received their dead resurrected; others were tortured without receiving a ransom, in order to gain a better resurrection. 36) Others experienced ridicule and beatings, and in addition to chains and prison, 37) were stoned, cut into pieces, exposed to temptation, died by being killed by the sword, wandered in sheepskins, in goat skins - poor, oppressed, vulnerable; 38) [those] whom the world was not worthy of, wandered through deserts, mountains, caves and gorges of the earth. 39) And all these, having testified in faith, did not receive the promise, 40) when God had provided something better for us, so that they would not be made perfect without us. 1) Therefore we, having such a raised up cloud of witnesses, having laid aside every burden and the sin that surrounds us, let us run with patience to the race set before us, 2) looking to Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. 3) Think about Him who endured such contradictions against Himself from sinners, so that you will not faint, exhausted by your souls. 4) You have not yet fought even to the point of blood, struggling against sin, 5) and have forgotten the consolation that is spoken to you as to sons, saying: “My son! Do not neglect the punishment of the Lord, and do not lose heart when He rebukes you. 6) For the Lord punishes whomever he loves; he scourges every son whom he receives” (Prov. 3:11–12). 7) Be punished. As with sons, God deals with you; for is there any son whom his father does not punish? 8) If you are without punishment, of which everyone became participants, then you are [children] of adultery, and not sons. 9) Moreover, if we had our carnal fathers who instructed us and honored them, should we not much more obey the Father of spirits in order to live? 10) And those, for their part, for the sake of a few days, instructed us according to their own will; This one is for benefit, for accepting His sanctification. 11) Any punishment at the present time does not seem to be joy, but grief; Afterwards, he bestows upon those who exercise through him the peaceful fruit of righteousness. 12) For this reason, raise up your drooping hands and weakened knees, 13) and make your feet walk upright, so that the lame may not be turned aside, but rather be healed. 14) Follow peace with everyone and holiness, without which no one will see God, 15) taking care that no one falls short of the grace of God; so that any bitter root, having grown high, does not interfere, and so that many are not defiled by it. 16) So that there would not be any fornicator or wicked man who, like Esau, would sell his birthright for one piece of food. 17) For you know that even after this, desiring to inherit the blessing, he was rejected; for he did not find room for repentance, although he asked for it with tears. 18) For ye are not approaching a tangible mountain, and blazing fire, and a whirlwind, and darkness, and a storm, 19) and the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of verbs, of which those who heard excused themselves, so that not a word should be spoken to them. 20) For they could not bear what was said: “And if a beast touches the mountain, let him be stoned” (Ex. 19:13). 21) And this vision was so terrible. Moses said, “I am in fear and trembling.” 22) But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, to the heavenly Jerusalem and the many thousands of angels gathered together, 23) and to the church of the firstborn who are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of the perfect righteous, 24) and to the Mediator of the New Testament, Jesus, and to the sprinkled Blood, which speaks better than Abel. 25) See that you do not turn away from the Speaker. If those who did not listen to him who spoke on earth did not escape [punishment], much more [we will not escape] those who turned away from the One who speaks from heaven. 26) Whose voice then shook the earth, but now He promised, saying: “Once again I will shake not only the earth, but also the heavens” (Hag. 2:7). 27) When He said, “Once more,” He announced the change of what was shaken as of something created, so that what could not be shaken might stand. 28) So, we, having received the unshakable Kingdom, have grace, with which we may serve God acceptably, with fear and reverence. 29) “For our God also is a consuming fire” (Deut. 4:24). 1) May brotherly love remain among you, 2) and do not forget hospitality, for through it some, unknowingly, received angels as guests. 3) Remember the prisoners, as if you were in chains together, and the suffering, as you yourself are in the body. 4) Let marriage be honest in everything and the bed undefiled. For God judges fornicators and adulterers. 5) Let there be morals without greed, being content with what you have. For He Himself said: “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Joshua 1:5), 6) so that we confidently say: “The Lord is my helper. And I will not be afraid [of what] man does to me” (Ps. 118:6). 7) Remember your leaders who proclaimed the word of God to you, and, looking at the outcome of [their] lives, imitate [their] faith. 8) Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. 9) Do not get carried away by different and alien teachings. For it is good [optime] to strengthen the heart with grace, and not with foods from which those who walk in them do not benefit. 10) We have an altar, from which those who serve the tabernacle have no power to eat. 11) For as many animals as the blood of animals is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest to cleanse sin, the bodies of such animals are burned outside the camp. 12) For this reason Jesus, in order to sanctify the people with His blood, suffered outside the gates. 13) Let us therefore go out to Him outside the camp, bearing His reproach; 14) For we do not have a permanent city here, but we are looking for the future. 15) Therefore, through Him let us always offer to God the sacrifice of praise, that is, the fruit of lips confessing His name. 16) Do not forget also charity and sociability, for such sacrifices are worthy of God. 17) Obey your leaders and submit to them. For they watch as obligated to give an account of your souls; so that they do it with joy, and not sighing; for it is of no use to you. 18) Pray for us; for we trust that we have a good conscience, desiring to conduct ourselves with good will in all things. 19) I especially ask you to do this so that I can be returned to you as soon as possible. 20) May the God of peace, who raised up from the dead the great Shepherd of the sheep, in the blood of the everlasting covenant, our Lord Jesus Christ, 21) perfect you in every good thing, that you may do His will, working in you that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ. Glory to him forever and ever! Amen. 22) I ask you, brothers, that you endure the word of consolation. Because I haven’t written much to you. 23) Know that our brother Timothy has been released; with which, if he comes soon, I will see you. 24) Greet all your leaders and all the saints. Brothers from Italy greet you. 25) Grace be with you all. Amen.
