Первое чудо

In the city of Cana, not far from Nazareth, there was a wedding celebration to which the Lord was invited with His Mother and disciples, of whom He already had five. Following Andrew and John, Peter, Philip and Bartholomew were called. The groom was a poor man, and he lacked wine to treat those invited to the feast. The Blessed Virgin said to the Lord: “They have no wine.” With these words, she asked her Son to help the poor, not wanting them to be embarrassed and grieve on the bright day of their joy. The Lord said to her: “What do you and I need, Woman? My hour has not yet come,” that is, I have not yet declared Myself as the Messiah. However, the Blessed Virgin did not take these words as a refusal of her request and said to the servants: “Whatever He tells you, do it.” Near the entrance to the house there were six stone vessels for ordinary ablutions, which contained two and three measures, and each measure contained about four buckets. The Lord said: “Fill these vessels with water,” and they filled them to the top. After this he said, “Bring it to the master of the feast,” and they did it according to His orders. When the steward tasted the water, it turned out to be excellent wine, so he (not knowing about the miracle, only the servants knew so far) said to the groom with joyful bewilderment: “usually every person serves good wine first, and when the guests have already drunk enough, then worse, and you saved the best wine for the end.” Thus, at a peaceful family holiday, the Lord began His miracles and revealed His glory. Thus, in the earliest times of the Christian Church, a wondrous kindness and compassion for the sorrows and needs of men was already revealed in the Most Blessed Virgin, the great Intercessor for all of us sinners before God!
