Matthew 12:8. “For the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.” "Ch. 12, [v.] 8. The Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath. How could it not be the Lord, when You Yourself established it” [1, 69]. Matthew 12:20. “He will not break a bruised reed, and he will not quench the smoking flax, until he brings victory to the court.” “October 19. Evening. 8 o'clock. He will not break a bruised reed, nor will he quench the smoking flax (a person who ardently repents) (cf. Matthew 12:20). This always comes true for me and has always come true. Glory to Your long-suffering, O Lord, towards me, a sinner. “A wonderful property of God, the most attractive” [4, 80]. “The disease came out. Mental illnesses, like physical illnesses, hiding inside for some time and, so to speak, accumulating more and more, finally come out. And this way out can be very beneficial for the soul. It happens like this. Suppose that a person is angry and irritable. His irritability is so strong that one unsmooth word, one ambiguous glance from another, one insignificant obstacle from any person, thing, circumstances of time or place drive him crazy. Isn’t it true that this person is internally sick, that his insides are filled with spiritual leprosy and it must be brought out and thereby destroyed or, at least, greatly weakened? – For such cases, you don’t have to go far to go outside. They often introduce themselves. Look: two irritable personalities come together - one of them sends a spark into the heart of the other, igniting his pride; the spark ignites, counteraction begins; the fire of irritability increases; two personalities breathe fire: their insides are on fire. But let their illness scourge itself - let them get excited and lose their temper as much as their heart desires, let their internal illness come out completely without a trace - they will get excited, fight, but finally calm down and feel the need to make peace. And here it is imperative to reconcile them and show them from experience how bad it is to be angry and irritable, how you need to curb yourself from the slightest feeling of anger and irritability - I walk with my kindness (cf. Ps. 25:1) - and in every possible way accustom your heart to goodness, meekness and humility. Learn from Me, for I am meek and lowly in heart (Matthew 11:29). What is the meekness of the Savior? - He will not contradict or cry out, but anyone at the crossroads will hear their voices. It will not break a broken reed (a sinner with a contrite and humble heart), and it will not quench flax (smoking flax - a human soul smoking with some fire of faith and virtue) (Matthew 12:19-20; Isaiah 42:2-3). What else? “Those who we rebuke do not rebuke, but rather hand them over to Him who judges righteously: Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree (1 Pet. 2:23–24)” [10, 434]. Matthew 12:24. “When the Pharisees heard this, they said, “He does not cast out demons except by the power of Beelzebub, the prince of demons.” “Verse 24. He casts out demons in no other way, the Pharisees said, than by the power of Beelzebub, the prince of demons” [1, 70]. Matthew 12:25. “But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste; and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.” Matthew 12:26. “And if Satan casts out Satan, then he is divided with himself: how can his kingdom stand?” Matthew 12:27. “And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whose power do your sons cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges.” Matthew 12:28. “If I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has certainly come to you.” "Vers. 25-28. Every kingdom divided against itself will be desolate; and every city or house divided against itself will not stand. And if Satan casts out Satan, then he is divided with himself: how can his kingdom stand? And if I cast out demons by the power of Beelzebub, by whose power do your sons (the apostles) cast them out? Therefore they will you judges (worthily and righteously). If I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, then of course the Kingdom of God has come to you" [1, 70]. Matthew 12:30. “He who is not with Me is against Me; and whoever does not gather with Me scatters.” “The words of our Savior Jesus Christ are true: whoever is not with Me is against Me (Matthew 12:30). Catholics, Lutherans and Reformed people have fallen away from the Church of Christ - they are not of one mind with us, they are at enmity against us, they strongly persecute us to death, oppress us in every possible way for our faith, ridicule it and us and cause us all sorts of trouble, especially in the main places of their population, they clearly go against Christ and His Church, they do not honor the life-giving Cross, holy icons, holy relics, they do not respect fasts, they convert saving dogmas of faith. They are not with us, against us and against Christ. Turn them, O Lord, to Thy true Church and save them!” [6, 39]. Matthew 12:31. “Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven to men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven to men.” “Man will not be allowed to blaspheme against the Spirit [Matthew 12:31]. Whoever denies the personal existence of the Holy Spirit, especially who has been a partaker of the Holy Spirit many times, blasphemes Him and if he does not correct himself from the blasphemy, he will not be forgiven either in this age or in the next. Holy soul, life-giving, Soul of grace, have mercy on us!” [5, vol. 2, 545]. Matthew 12:33. “Either judge the tree to be good and its fruit to be good; or recognize the tree as bad and its fruit as bad, for a tree is known by its fruit.” Matthew 12:34. “Born of vipers! how can you say good things when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” Matthew 12:35. “A good man brings good things out of a good treasure, and an evil man brings evil things out of an evil treasure.” “You are evil to beings (Matthew 12:34), said the Savior. Who does not feel this in himself? So, Lord, we are truly evil. If sometimes there is a special surge of anger in us and we begin to hate everyone, let us not be surprised at this: this is blind pride, which considers itself to be good, but we humbly admit that we really are like that, and turn this into a reason for humility; and then there is a special mercy, grace God to us, when we are truly kind, truly well-disposed towards others. - Let us say more often to the Lord: “Lord! You came into the world to save sinners, from them I am the first: save me from the evil that lies within me. I can do nothing without You (John 15:5), and not only can I do nothing good without You, I cannot do anything good from myself. good thoughts, good, holy feelings. Help me, Lord!” [2, 205]. “If your lips say: Lord, have mercy, but your heart does not know why God should have mercy on you, then your prayer is sinful, oral, and not heartfelt; in prayer, your heart must always be imbued with sorrow for sins. – In the same way, if you give good with your lips, but your heart remains insensitive to what your lips say, then again your prayer is unworthy of God: you need to give thanks with your heart first of all; the mouth is the servant of the heart. Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks (Matthew 12:34; Luke 6:45)” [2, 231]. "34. Spawn of vipers! how can you say good things when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks” [1, 70]. “What is most desirable for a person? Avoidance of sin, remission and forgiveness of sins and acquisition of holiness. Why? Because sins, such as: proud, evil behavior towards others, evil suspiciousness, covetousness, stinginess, envy, etc. separate us from God, the Source of life, remove us from communication with people and plunge us into spiritual death, and meek, humble, kindly treatment of everyone, even our enemies, simple-heartedness, non-covetousness, contentment with the small and necessary, generosity towards everyone, goodwill and other virtuous deeds unite us with God, the Source of life, and make us amiable to people. Grant, then, Lord, to completely avoid sin, and to become accustomed to every virtue, according to Your grace. To her, Master, Lord, without You we cannot do anything good, evil exists (Matthew 12:34)” [5, vol. 1, 186]. “Before a church service or any other requirement, also before any civil service, beware in every possible way so as not to fall into a gloomy, despondent and dissatisfied state of mind, so that such disposition of spirit does not lead you to reckless irritability, annoyance and impatience in church or in civil service and does not become the reason for your stumbling on prayer and unworthy agreement with the Lord, the King of peace and love, or the cause of stumbling in the civil service. Usually out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks (Matthew 12:34). During prayer, this must certainly be done, but how will the lips speak freely from excess, when the heart is dissatisfied, constrained, annoyed, irritated, rushing towards blind haste and words of impatience and anger, when it breathes hatred towards one or those persons who ask you to perform some requirement, ritual or are waiting for your word? - Cursed is everyone, it is said, do the work of the Lord with negligence (Jer. 48:10). Oh, how this curse weighs heavily on you when, without peace in your heart, but with annoyance and irritability towards your neighbor, you say any prayers! - The heart is vague, constricted; the word dries up and stops flowing, like a stream whose source has dried up or dried up. The enemy is very cunning; he usually always tries to confuse us with something before the service, so that during the service we cannot serve with dignity and fruitfully; he always tries to block the very source of our life, thoughts, words - the heart. He stabs everyone, looking out for everyone's weaknesses. Having noticed a weak side in the heart, he usually shoots his arrow at it and hurts the unwary: he strikes those prone to suspiciousness, despondency and cowardice with arrows of suspiciousness and despondency; to pride or vanity - pride and vanity; to envy - envy; to care about worldly things - to stinginess and love of money; worldly cares - stinginess - kills everyone with whatever is best for him" [8, 573]. “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. Matthew 12:34-35) - he speaks rudely, unpeacefully, with enmity towards his brother” [8, 535]. “The Holy Spirit is the Treasure of all goods or spiritual wealth. Look at what wonderful wealth the souls in which the Spirit of God dwelt were filled: with what light of knowledge, with what fragrance of virtues. The soul of a pious person is very rich, a spiritual treasury. Pavlov's soul. Peter's soul; John's soul, Zlatoust, Vasiliev, Grigoriev. A good man brings forth good things from the good treasures of his heart (cf. Matthew 12:35). This is where the true treasure is: it is not at all what the world values. Talents" [8, 80]. “What wise, sublime, saving, truly divine instructions and commandments! But our everyday everyday life is so inconsistent with them! The Lord teaches us to treat people the way we would like people to treat us, that is, simply-heartedly, kindly, sympathetically, patiently. He set ourselves as the measure of our relationships with people, and this measure, this scale is love: for no one has ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and warms it (Eph. 5:29). But in the hostel it is often the opposite; People’s relationships with each other are very often incorrect, perverse, not distinguished by the spirit of simplicity and sincerity, love and goodwill, peacefulness, meekness and condescension, purity and holiness, sympathy and mercy and Christian patience. They are often distinguished by a spirit of insincerity and duplicity, coldness and arrogance, guile and ill will, or impurity and voluptuousness, low selfishness and selfishness. The root or reason, the source of this or that treatment of people one with another is in the heart of a person, for a good person wears out the good treasure of his heart, and an evil person wears out the evil treasure of his heart from the evil one (cf. Matt. 12:35), - and it comes either from his natural qualities, or from upbringing, happy or perverted, from various passions, inclinations, habits, for example, to certain pleasures, from good or bad examples, from the life situation, from greater or lesser material security, or from the environment in which someone lives, from the position in society, from various everyday lessons or temptations, and finally, from the extent to which someone has or has not been imbued with the spirit of Christ, the Gospel, the Church. Thus, the measure of relationships with others for some people is simplicity and sincerity, goodwill, love for everyone; this is the best side of the relationship of one to another; but often the character of one’s attitude towards another is cunning, suspicion, hostility, rudeness, envy, extreme pride, self-interest, partiality, vanity, vanity, ambition, voluptuousness or extreme arrogance, that is, a high opinion of oneself, seeking to humiliate others. This is another type of human relationship, opposite to the first. Generally speaking, one can notice more insincere relationships between people than sincere ones, because all hearts are infected more or less with the impurity of sin, covered with the ashes of passions. For who can boast of having a pure heart?.. So, some words are soft like oil, and yet they are stinging arrows” [9, 283]. “Also - the image in man of the Holy Trinity: the thinking mind is the image of God the Father; the heart in which the mind resides and portrays itself is the image of the Son of God, the Hypostatic Wisdom of God; the mouth, through which comes out what is in the thoughts and heart, is the image of the Holy Spirit. Dunu and the verb to them; receive the Holy Spirit (John 20:22). When evil thoughts, adultery, fornication, blasphemy come from the heart... (Wed: Matt. 15:19), then this comes out of the evil spirit nesting in the heart of a person... and when a good person wears out good things from the good treasure of his heart (Wed: Matt. 12:35), then this is an image of the procession of the Holy Spirit from the Father through the Son. – Man is a small image, a whole, indivisible, living image of the Trinity. Great man! He is a small god. It is not in vain that it is said: I said: Ye are gods, and are all sons of the Most High (Ps. 81:6; John 10:34). If these are the words of the gods, to whom the word of God came, and the Scripture cannot be ruined (that is, what is said is said truly, immutably), His Father is holy and sent to the world, saying, as I speak blasphemy, I said beforehand: I am the Son of God (cf. John 10:35–36). - Oh dignity, oh human greatness! Look at a person, especially a Christian, as a little god, as a son of God, and accept him as the Son of God, talk to him, treat him as a son of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” [10, 350]. Matthew 12:36. “I tell you that for every idle word that people speak, they will give an answer on the day of judgment:” “36. I tell you that for every idle word that people say, they will give an answer on the day of judgment. Dignified and righteous: because all of this present life must be used in preparation for the future life; for us there is no idle day, no hour, no word, no deed, everything must be directed towards one goal. We have no time to idle talk” [1, 70]. “When praying, always firmly believe and remember that every thought of yours and every word of yours can, undoubtedly can be action. With God every verb will not fail [Lk. 1:37]. But cleave unto the Lord; there is one spirit with the Lord [1 Cor. 6:17]. This means that your word will not fail. All things are possible to the believer [Mk. 9:23]. Take care of your word: your word is precious. For every idle word people will give an answer on the Day of Judgment [Wed: Matt. 12:36]" [5, vol. 1,193]. “Try to turn your whole life into the service of God: whether you read anything at home, begin this work with a short heartfelt prayer, so that God will enlighten and make you wise in faith and piety and in carefully fulfilling your duties; never read out of idleness, to pass time; by this you will degrade the word, which should all serve our salvation, and not idle talk, and - a means to pleasure and a pleasant pastime; When you speak to your neighbors, speak wisely, prudently, instructively, edifyingly; Avoid idle talk like the poison of a serpent, remembering that for every idle word that men speak, they will be given a word about it on the day of judgment [Matt. 12:36 ], that is, they will hear the just verdict of the Judge; Whether you teach your children or those of others, turn the matter into the service of God, teaching them with diligence, first thinking through the means for teaching that is clear, intelligible, and therefore (if possible) fruitful. Defeat in the name of the Lord and by the power of the cross the machinations of the enemy, who is trying to confuse, overshadow, constrain, and weaken you. Even if you eat, drink or do anything else lawful, do everything for the glory of God [Cf.: 1 Cor. 10:31]" [5, vol. 2, 400]. “For every idle word that men speak, they will give a word about it on the day of judgment [Matthew 12:36]. You see that an answer and punishment awaits you for every idle word, not only seductive. Because with our Lord, the All-Creator-Word, there are no and cannot be idle words: the word of the Lord will not return to Him empty [Wed: Isa. 55:11]; He will not fail with God every verb [Luke 1:37]; and we are created in the image of God, therefore our words should not be spoken in vain, in vain, idlely, but every word of ours should have spiritual, instructive power: let your word always be in grace [Col. 4:6]... Therefore, in prayer and in conversations, be extremely careful not to speak words idlely, to the wind” [5, vol. 2, 411]. “Why will people give an answer for every idle word on the day of judgment [Wed: Matt. 12:36 ]? Because every idle word brings harm both to the soul of the idle talker and to those who listen to his idle talk, for it removes them from God the Word, Who is simple. That is why we ask the Lord during fasting so that our ears may not be interrupted by idle words. Do not give me the spirit of idle talk [they say. St. Ephraim the Syrian]" [5, vol. 2, 575]. Matthew 12:37. “For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” “37. You will be justified by your words, and you will be condemned by your words. If the word is good, edifying, then it will justify us; but if it is bad, rotten, it will condemn us” [1, 70]. “With the word - this precious treasure of a rationally free spirit and our difference from the wordless, we become so arrogant and get used to it, like some unimportant things in our house, and as we use them and throw them down at random: so is the word. But the word is an important thing: the Lord says that by his words a person will be justified at the Judgment and by his words he will be condemned (cf. Matthew 12:37). Especially in prayer, one must deeply appreciate the word: this image of the Creative, Hypostatic Word, the manifestation of thought and the rest of the spirit” [8, 429]. Matthew 12:38. “Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said: Teacher! We would like to see a sign from You.” Matthew 12:39. “But He answered and said to them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks a sign; and no sign will be given to him except the sign of the prophet Jonah;" Matthew 12:40. “For as Jonah was in the belly of the whale three days and three nights, so will the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights.” Matthew 12:41. “The Ninevites will rise up in judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented from the preaching of Jonah; and behold, there is more Jonah here.” Matthew 12:42. “The queen of the south will rise up in judgment with this generation and condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to listen to the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, there is more Solomon here.” Matthew 12:43. “When the unclean spirit leaves a person, it walks through dry places, looking for rest, and does not find it;” "St. 38–43. The scribes and Pharisees ask for a sign. But to the evil and adulterous generation, Jesus Christ shows only the sign of the prophet Jonah. At the first coming of Christ, we were given a talent (i.e., the human race), and the broadcast of the spiritual apostles went out into the whole earth, and their words went out to all the ends of the universe. At the Second Coming, the Lord will require all of us to account for the use of our talents. The king will be exhausted, and every subject, small and great, and every mortal, and the deeds of every person will be laid bare before everyone, not a single thought will be hidden, the entire inner life of everyone will appear as if photographed, it will be impossible for anyone to renounce or lock themselves in their sins if they have not repented while living on earth. Where are your works, brothers! How did you spend your earthly life, this precious deposit given to you by the Creator to prepare for the future life, for the revelation of your strengths and abilities, for the use of your talents? The Queen of the South came from the ends of the earth to listen to the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, here there is more than Solomon (Matthew 12:42) - the hypostatic Wisdom Itself. And many spiritually blind people studied and are learning from Leo Tolstoy, whom they read greedily and fall into his cleverly placed nets, become alienated from God, fall into despair and commit suicide. These are the fruits of the devil’s talent, sowed by the enemy of God through his minion, Tolstoy” [6:34].
