I know that you are confused by the continuity of constant trials befalling my lord, the most honest and reverent presbyter. But don't be afraid of anything like that. Whoever endures this for the sake of God, the more severe his suffering, the higher the reward. Comforting yourself with this, endure grief with courage and gratitude, glorifying God for everything that happens in life. In this way, you too will become partners with him in the rewards and crowns prepared for him, for the fact that you meekly and courageously endured the test.
You know that real life is only a path, that its joys and sorrows pass in the same way, that “through many tribulations it is fitting for us to enter the kingdom of God” (Acts 14:22) and that hard and sorrowful is “the way that leads into eternal life” (Matthew 7:14). Comforted by this, as well as by his presence with you, dispel every shadow of despondency, rejoicing and having fun for his suffering, because his awaits for them an ineffable and imperishable reward.
