31. К диакону Феодоту

I know myself that you would not have just written to us when you could have arrived in person, and that, having left everything, you would have wanted to be with us if there were no obstacles, and extremely important obstacles, such as the present time of the year, the difficult state of affairs and the increasing desolation of this place every day. There is not the slightest need for me to find out about this. As soon as I found out that you love us dearly, then, of course, I already know this. Although we already wrote to everyone without your reminder, in any case we thank you for such attentiveness to us, as a result of which at the end of your letter you finally ask us about this. This is a sign of a soul that is passionately concerned about our cause, diligent, caring, and able to sincerely love. So, I say, I’ve already written to everyone. By the way, we also recently sent a letter to my mistress Carteria; but now they have learned that she does not live there and has undertaken a long journey. So, if there is any possibility of sending her our letter there, then we went over it if you consider it necessary; and if it is not possible, then go to my most honest and noble masters: Marcellian and others, and tell them, when they write to her, to justify us to her and write that we were not careless and did not write to her all this time and that her long journey prevented us from writing to her more often. The paragraphs in the text were arranged by us. – Editorial staff of “ABC of Faith” You might be interested in:
