147. К епископу, прибывшему с запада

When I think how much hard work you have endured both at home and during such a long sea voyage, for the good of the church, then, without waiting for the end of the matter, I involuntarily glorify, exalt and please you. Whether anything comes of your zeal, my most honest lord, or whether the original perpetrators of the troubles remain adamant in their stubborn blindness, not succumbing to cure - in any case, the fullest reward belongs to you for your intention and for the implementation of all means on your part. Therefore, we please and glorify you, constantly testifying to you our gratitude. We would also like to write to you more often, but the desolation of the place in which we are imprisoned does not allow us to do this. Fortunately, at the present time an opportunity has arisen to write to you with my lord, the most honest and reverent presbyter. By using it, we give you due greetings. And before, we have repeatedly addressed our speeches to you - in the soul and in the heart; but we are handing them over to you in ink and on paper now for the first time, because for the first time we have now found a person who is coming to you. Accept him worthy of yourself, show him the love characteristic of you and make him happy with your affection. Your favor will be a joyful consolation for him and a sweet reward for the hardships that he will have to experience on the road. And I don’t find the slightest need to remind you that now everyone needs to especially intensify their efforts for the welfare of the churches - you showed this with your very deeds.
