Since anyone who gets down to business without a definite goal is, as it were, wandering in the dark; since he who works without a goal is beggared in everything, therefore we will first of all talk about the goal set for this book, so that what is said in it is easier to assimilate. This goal is to begin with philosophy and briefly outline in this book, as far as possible, all kinds of knowledge. Therefore, it should be called the “Source of Knowledge.” So, I will not say anything on my own, but I will present in a coherent form what has been said in various places by divine and wise men.
