At the same time, for the information of such benevolent correspondents, it is stated that the “Theological Encyclopedia”, founded and up to and including the fifth volume, edited by the late († 1904, VIII, 22) prof. A.P. Lopukhin, in the further continuation, sets the main task of communicating strictly accurate factual instructions with scientific coverage of them on each issue with possible thoroughness, but without excessive length, which is appropriate only in studies and special treatises. Without at all pretending to be a symbolic exponent of Orthodoxy, the “Theological Encyclopedia”, however, conducts its business and examines all issues from the Orthodox point of view, maintaining complete objectivity in thorough and scientific information. Accordingly, all the necessary factual data should be presented in advance (with a listing of primary sources), then the most important scientific interpretations, explanations and hypotheses should be presented, and in conclusion - the author’s own thoughts and conclusions of the article. This condition is valid not only for historical, biblical, theological, etc. articles, but also for purely theoretical ones, for example, ethical, dogmatic, etc. With each article - at the end - an index of the literature of the subject is attached (printed in petit): here, if possible, all the most important (namely “all the most important”, and not “all”, in general or “the most important” by choice!) Russian works are given, and from foreign ones the most important and those where you can find more detailed bibliographic information, and it is desirable that the best works that are most useful for detailed scientific research be highlighted (with short notes) familiarize yourself with this issue. In exceptional cases, the historical course of literary discussion of a well-known issue or subject is briefly presented, but in articles about writers (especially Russian and generally Orthodox) a possibly complete list of all (in general, or at least all the most important) works is presented with the designation of existing bibliographic indexes to them. – In the interests of mutual convenience, to shorten and facilitate editorial work, the editors, fully hoping for active sympathy for the tasks of the Encyclopedia, diligently ask all employees - permanent and occasional - to write articles and notes clearly (with sufficient distances between lines) and certainly only on even-numbered (reverse) pages, where margins are necessary; Each article must begin with a new quarter.
