A messenger from all the Russian rulers to the Lithuanian rulers, who received ordination from Metropolitan Jonah, about Gregory Metropolitan, who came from Rome to the Metropolis of Kyiv Blessing and peace and union in Christ in all piety of the Orthodox faith, and much worship, with loving joy, to Theodosius, Archbishop of Rostov and Yaroslavl, Philip, Bishop of Suzdal, Gerontius, Bishop of Kolomna, Vasian, Bishop of Sarai, Jonah, Bishop of Perm, and also to the most honorable archimandrites and reverends abbots, and presbyters, and the entire body of the Orthodox Church 2790 Christian faith, to your private dominion he will inscribe: Euthymius, Bishop of Chernigov and Dybryansk, Kalist, Bishop of Polo, Misail, Bishop of Smolensk, Nicephorus, Bishop of Vladimir, Iakim 2791, Bishop of Turov and Pinsk, Martimian, Bishop of Lut, also to the most honorable archimandrites, and venerable abbots, and presbyters of all the great Orthodoxy of the Lithuanian land. Our hearing is such that the dei came to you 2792, Gregory’s name, Isidor’s disciple, to the Lithuanian land, and says to himself to be the Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Rus', coming from Rome, and informs himself of the installation and ordination from the Roman Church of a certain Patriarch Gregory, who was formerly in Constantinople, convicted of the Latin heresy from those there Orthodox metropolitans and bishops: and that Gregory is not a true metropolitan, but a false one, carries with him the sheets of his father and that false patriarch, and in those sheets he writes against our lord Jonah, Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Rus', and calls him a renegade and apostate; and they themselves are rejecters and apostates of God’s law of our Orthodox Christian faith, according to the rules of the holy Apostles and the holy Ecumenical Fathers; but wants to raise a storm and rebellion and corruption against the Church of God and all of Orthodox Christianity. And you know, our brother, that metropolitans 2793 were delivered to Rus' from Constantinople, and because of our sins and God’s permission, now the Constantinople church has wavered, retreated from our Orthodoxy 2794, and we have languages: both our lord, the great prince Vasily Vasilyevich, and his son, the great prince Ivan Vasilyevich, having gathered You, your pilgrims, apxbishops and bishops, and the most honorable archimandrites, and reverend abbots, and the entire church community, and according to the rules of the holy Apostles and holy Ecumenical Fathers, installed our lord Jonah, Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Rus', to the metropolitanate, from which the ordination was accepted. And you, our spiritual brothers, would remember your confession and promise, which you promised naturally to our lord Jonah, Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Rus', before God and before his holy angels, before your brother bishops, that you would not retreat from our lord Jonah, Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Rus', and you would not accept another metropolitan from Latin: and you, our the brothers did not accept that apostate, Isidore’s disciple Gregory (if you had taught to give such strength, you would not have been true to him), as the second Formos, creeping like a wolf into the sheep, and they would not have had communion with him, and they would not have separated from our natural brotherhood and union in Christ.
