Message to the monastery, why should the archimandrite go to priests and deacons and monks Behold... the Metropolitan of All Rus', I gave this letter of mine to the monastery... of the saint, why should the archimandrite and priests and deacons and monks go about everything according to this letter of mine. May the Archimandrite have perfect spiritual love for the priests and all the elders of that monastery; and you, priests and elders, so that you would honor your archimandrite and your spiritual superior with reverence and obedience, without his blessing and command, you would not leave the monastery anywhere, and would live according to the rules of monastic life for everything. And the archimandrite must be concerned about your salvation, and with the blessing of our humility. And whoever the priest, or the deacon, or the monks is indignant about this punishment, and also has some kind of abuse in that honest monastery: and I ordered the archimandrite to show him spiritually in front of two or three rumors, let him stop from that; but he will not be punished, as if he were insensitive, and I ordered that priest or deacon to be sent away from the church, and the monk to be expelled from the monastery. And that they receive bread from the monastery villages, that the peasants plow for them, or plow for the monastery’s silver, and they divide it among themselves, as in other monasteries: the archimandrite lives half of everyone, and the priests and deacons and monks have half; and then the priests and deacons and the chernetskoe half to the priests and the deacons half, and the chernets half. And those whose monastery lands are not plowed, nor their wives seized, but are given as hire: and those hires are also divided: half for the archimandrite, and half for the priest and deacons with the monks. And in my tribute and on my metropolitan passages, the archimandrite raises half of everything, and the priests and deacons raise the other half, and the monks raise half; and moreover, the monks in the church parish or in the monastery do not interfere in anything. And what is annual, and magpies, and inscriptions, and prayer services, and then the archimandrite shares with the priests and deacons in half: the archimandrite gets half of everything, and the priests and deacons with both the mallow and the sexton half; and the monks in those parishes do not stand up for anything.
