Blessing of Philip, Metropolitan of All Rus', to the lovely monastery, to the house of the life-giving Trinity, to the monastery of St. Sergius the Wonderworker, to the spiritual superior, the son of our humility and pilgrim, Abbot Spiridon, Bless, son, knowing well about these, how, by God's grace, and by the will of my son, Grand Duke Ivan Vasilievich, and with my blessing, you entered through the doors into the great enclosure of such a flock of Christ, gathered by God, and with our blessing you have established, as a good shepherd of his verbal sheep, and it is fitting for your son to eat with the great punishment of Christ the holy commandments, and to shepherd with loving humility, and care for their souls, for I am good and a teacher, for the benefit of the soul, governing myself according to the Gospel of Christ, by perfect deeds before God, and having strong spiritual and physical use for the God-gathered flock of Christ of the holy fence of the Venerable Abbot Sergius the Wonderworker, and according to the Holy Gospel, inviting everyone by name, so that they may know your voice and follow you; and thus, by the fishing of good words, attract everything to God-inspired understanding, and not by ferocity or cruelty, tear off the verbal [sheep] of Christ 2907, 2908, but with the purification of your spiritual conscience, arrange all that is good, and show a quiet and meek mind with humility, and with chastity, in one turn, to copulate, and not to offend, according to the spoken word of the Lord, the Evangelist writes: “Learn from me, for I am meek and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls”; and again he said: “Be merciful, as your heavenly Father is generous: forgive men their sins, and your heavenly Father will also forgive you your sins,” and to this end, the Lord pouring out His mercy on everything, said: “If men sin against you, forgive them in seventy weeks.” Many have actually sinned and, through repentance, have received forgiveness for their sin: with the same eyes we see the sinner, but it is fitting to bring justice to the sinner with mercy. And for this reason, son, I am writing to you about Pamva, who sinned against you elders, and who, through his sins, fell into reproach before you and into the great need of his sin: you yourself know from whom. Today I bless you my son, for you will show mercy on him, to the glory of God, and sharing with me, my son, commanded to release him from his bonds and give forgiveness to him for sinning against you 2909 him; yes, my son, forgive him for this, and with your brothers, with the elders, humble him, sharing me, so that they will not remain in grumbling about his sin and may the sovereigns do the deeds of forgiveness with him.
