Do no evil, and no evil will befall you. Don't ask for elevation. Do not multiply your sins. Be merciful. Do not bear false witness, do not talk idle talk. Work hard. Be true to friendship. Respect and appreciate an intelligent and kind wife; do not offend the toiling slave; take care of the livestock; take care of raising children; honor your father and mother. Love your Creator with all your might and do not forsake His servants. Always remember your end, and you will never sin. Sir.7:1 Do no evil, and no evil will befall you; Sir.7:2 Flee from iniquity, and it will flee from you. Sir.7:3 My son! Do not sow in the furrows of iniquity, and you will not reap seven times more from them. Sir.7:4 Do not ask the Lord for power, or the king for a place of honor. Sir.7:5 Do not justify yourself before the Lord, and do not be wise before the king. Sir.7:6 Do not strive to become a judge, lest you be powerless to crush unrighteousness, lest you ever fear the face of a strong man and cast a shadow over your righteousness. Sir.7:7 Do not sin against the city society, and do not disgrace yourself before the people. Sir.7:8 Do not add sin to sin, for even for one you will not go unpunished. Sir.7:9 Do not say: “He will look upon the multitude of my gifts, and when I offer them to the Most High God, He will accept them.” 9 . External worship of God, not combined with internal, does not have full meaning in the eyes of the Lord. External sacrifices made on external altars must be combined with internal sacrifices of love for God and neighbors, offered by a person on the altar of his heart. Wed. Ps. 50:19; Is. 1. Sir.7:10 Do not be faint-hearted in your prayer and do not neglect to give alms. Sir.7:11 Do not mock a person who is in the sorrow of his soul; for there is the Humbling and the Exalting. Sir.7:12 Do not invent lies against your brother, and do not do the same against your friend. Sir.7:13 Do not wish to tell any lie; for repeating it will not serve any good. Sir.7:14 Before the assembly of elders, do not talk too much, and do not repeat the words in your petition. 14. Don't be annoying and talkative. Sir.7:15 Do not turn away from hard work and from agriculture, which was established by the Most High. Sir.7:16 Do not associate yourself with the multitude of sinners. Sir.7:17 Humble your soul deeply. Sir.7:18 Remember that wrath will not tarry, Sir.7:19 that the punishment of the wicked is fire and the worm. Sir.7:20 Do not exchange a friend for a treasure, or a brother of the same blood for the gold of Ophir. Sir.7:21 Do not leave an intelligent and kind wife, for her worth is more precious than gold. Sir.7:22 Do not offend a slave who works hard, nor a hired hand whose soul is devoted to you. Sir.7:23 Let your soul love an intelligent slave, and do not deny him freedom. Sir.7:24 Do you have any cattle? watch him, and if he is useful to you, let him remain with you. Sir.7:25 Have you any sons? teach them and bend their necks from youth. Sir.7:26 Do you have daughters? take care of their body and do not show them your cheerful face. 26. Take care of their body, i.e. about their physical health and safety. And do not show them your cheerful face, i.e. behave with them in such a way as not to lose your parental authority in their eyes. Sir.7:27 Give your daughter in marriage, and you will do a great deed, and give her to a wise husband. Sir.7:28 Do you have a wife you like? don't drive her away. Sir.7:29 Honor your father with all your heart and do not forget your mother’s birth pains. Sir.7:30 Remember that you were born of them: and what can you repay them as they have given you? Sir.7:31 Revere the Lord with all your soul and respect His priests. Sir.7:32 Love your Creator with all your might, and do not forsake His servants. Sir.7:33 Fear the Lord, and honor the priest, and give him a portion, as you are commanded: Sir.7:34 the firstfruits, and for sin, and the giving of shoulders, and the sacrifice of consecration, and the firstfruits of the saints. 34. The sacrificial offerings of the Jews in favor of the priests and Levites are listed, in accordance with the requirements of the Law of Moses (see notes to the book of Leviticus). Sir.7:35 And stretch out your hand to the poor, so that your blessing may be complete. Sir.7:36 Let mercy be given to everyone who lives, but do not deprive the dead of mercy. Sir.7:37 Do not withdraw from those who weep, and lament with those who mourn. Sir.7:38 Do not be lazy to visit the sick, for for this you will be loved. Sir.7:39 In all your deeds, remember your end, and you will never sin. 39. Remembrance of death and future retribution should serve as a constant warning for a person against sinful hobbies.
