Do not be ashamed of what is kind and reasonable. Be careful in raising your children. Be careful around women. Glorify the Lord God for His greatness in creation. Sir.42:1 Do not be ashamed of this, and do not sin out of partiality: Sir.42:2 Do not be ashamed to faithfully fulfill the law of the Most High and the covenant and the judgment, to bring justice to the wicked, Sir.42:3 dispute between a friend and strangers and the granting of inheritance to friends, Sir.42:4 Accuracy in weights and measures - you never know how much or how little you gain - Sir.42:5 impartiality in buying and selling and strict education of children, and to bleed the side of a bad slave. Sir.42:6 With a thin wife it is good to have a seal, and where there are many hands, lock it there. Sir.42:7 If you give out anything, give it out by count and weight, and do all giving and receiving by appointment. Sir.42:8 Do not be ashamed to admonish the foolish and the foolish, and the old who compete with the young: and you will be truly well-bred and will earn the approval of every person. 1–8. They finish the thought set out in vv. 17–29. 41 chapters. Sir.42:9 For a father, a daughter is a secret constant concern, and caring for her drives away sleep: in her youth, as if she had not faded, and in marriage, as if she had become disgusted; Sir.42:10 in virginity, lest she become defiled and become pregnant in her father's house; in marriage, lest she violate marital fidelity and remain barren while living with her husband. Sir.42:11 Tighten your supervision over your shameless daughter, so that she does not make you a laughing stock for your enemies, a byword in the city, a reproach among the people, and does not disgrace you before the community. Sir.42:12 Do not look at the beauty of a person and do not sit among women: Sir.42:13 For as moths come out of clothes, so does a woman’s wickedness come out of a woman. Sir.42:14 Better is an evil man than an affectionate woman - a woman who shames to the point of reproach. Sir.42:15 Now I will remember the works of the Lord and tell about what I saw. According to the word of the Lord His works were revealed: Sir.42:16 The shining sun looks upon everything, and all its work is full of the glory of the Lord. Sir.42:17 And the Lord did not allow the saints to proclaim all His miracles, which the Lord Almighty established, so that the universe would stand firm for His glory. 17. The immensity of the creative greatness of the Lord is such that even the saints did not allow the Lord to proclaim all His miracles in the universe. Sir.42:18 He penetrates the abyss and the heart and sees all their bends; For the Lord knows all knowledge and sees into the signs of the age, Sir.42:19 announcing the past and the future and revealing the traces of the hidden; Sir.42:20 Not a single thought escapes Him, and not a single word is hidden from Him. 18–20. It speaks of the omnipresence and omniscience of the Lord. Sir.42:21 He hath wrought the great works of His wisdom, and abideth before the world and forever; 21. It speaks of the wisdom and eternity of the Lord. Sir.42:22 He did not increase or decrease and did not require any adviser. 22. It speaks of the immutability and wisdom of the Lord. Sir.42:23 How desirable are all His works, although we can only see them as sparks! 23. The limited human mind is unable to comprehend the fullness of divine greatness; only glimpses of this greatness are available to his observation and assimilation, insofar as they illuminate before him the comprehended existence of the physical and spiritual world. Wed. 17th century Sir.42:24 They all live and abide forever for all needs, and they all obey Him. 24. All of them, i.e. the creations of the Lord (cf. v. 23), live and abide forever for all needs, i.e. to satisfy various needs, for the glory of the Creator, for the benefit and consolation of creatures. And they all obey Him, their Creator. Sir.42:25 All of them are double, one opposite the other, and He created nothing imperfect: Sir.42:26 One supports the good of another, and who will be satisfied with the sight of His glory? 25–26. With all its diversity, the world of divine creations is something harmoniously whole, indivisible, in which some things and phenomena are complemented by others, one supports the good of the other.
