Forgive your neighbor, and the Lord will forgive you. Despise ignorance. Refrain from quarreling. Beware of overhearing and bilingualism. Be careful with your word. Sir.28:1 The vengeful will receive vengeance from the Lord, who will not forget his sins. Sir.28:2 Forgive your neighbor's offense, and then through your prayer your sins will be forgiven. Sir.28:3 Man harbors anger against man, but asks the Lord for forgiveness; Sir.28:4 He has no mercy for a person like himself, and prays for his sins; Sir.28:5 He himself, being flesh, harbors malice: who will cleanse his sins? Sir.28:6 Remember the last thing and stop being hostile; remember corruption and death and keep the commandments; 6. Wed. Sir.7:39. Remember the last thing, i.e. death, incorruptibility, judgment, stop quarreling and keep the commandments of the Lord. Sir.28:7 Remember the commandments and do not be angry with your neighbor; Sir.28:8 Remember the covenant of the Most High and despise ignorance. Sir.28:9 Refrain from quarreling and you will reduce your sins; Sir.28:10 For a quarrelsome man will kindle strife; a sinner will confuse his friends and create discord among those who live in the world. Sir.28:11 As the substance of fire is, so it will burn; Sir.28:12 And as a man's strength, so will his wrath be, and as he is rich, his wrath will increase. Sir.28:13 A heated argument kindles a fire, and a heated quarrel sheds blood. Sir.28:14 If you blow on a spark, it will flare up, and if you spit on it, it will go out: both come out of your mouth. Sir.28:15 Let the earpiece and the two-tongued be cursed, for they have destroyed many who lived in silence; Sir.28:16 The third tongue shook many and drove them out from nation to nation, 16. The third language, i.e. the cunning tongue of a third person, between two. Sir.28:17 And he destroyed the fortified cities and overthrew the houses of the nobles; Sir.28:18 The third tongue drove out the valiant women and deprived them of their labors; Sir.28:19 He who listens to him will not find peace and will not live in silence. Sir.28:20 The blow of the scourge makes scars, and the blow of the tongue crushes the bones; Sir.28:21 Many have fallen by the edge of the sword, but not as many as have fallen by the tongue; Sir.28:22 Happy is he who hid from him, who did not experience his wrath, who did not bear his yoke and was not bound by his chains; Sir.28:23 For his yoke is a yoke of iron, and his bands are bands of brass, Sir.28:24 A cruel death is his death, and hell itself is better than it. Sir.28:25 It will not take possession of the pious, and they will not be burned in its flame; 25. He will not master, i.e. hell (see Art. 24) of evil tongues and for evil tongues. Sir.28:26 Those who forsake the Lord will fall into him; it will burn in them and will not be quenched: it will be sent against them like a lion, and like a leopard it will destroy them. Sir.28:27 See that you fence your possession with thorns, Sir.28:28 Bind your silver and gold, Sir.28:29 And make a weight and a measure for your words, and a door and a lock for your mouth. 29. Be careful what you say. Sir.28:30 Beware lest you stumble by them and fall before the evildoer.
