1–7. The grief of Tobit and his wife over Tobias. 8–14. Raguel and Edna, at the urgent request of Tobias, release the latter with his wife and send them blessings and good wishes. Tob.10:1 Tobit his father counted every day. And when the days of the journey were completed, and he did not come, Tob.10:2 Tobit said: Have they not been detained? or is not Gabael dead, and there is no one to give them the silver? Comrade 10:3 And he was very sad. Tov.10:4 His wife said to him, “Our son is lost, and that is why he does not come.” And she began to cry for him and said: Comrade 10:5 Nothing occupies me, my son, because I have let you go, the light of my eyes! Tob.10:6 Tobit says to her: be silent, do not worry, he is healthy. Tov.10:7 And she said to him: Be silent, do not deceive me; my child perished. - And every day I went outside the city to the road along which they set off; She did not eat bread during the day, and at night she did not stop crying for her son Tobias, until the fourteen days of the wedding feast, which Raguel had sworn to him to spend there, were over. Then Tobias said to Raguel: Let me go, because my father and my mother no longer hope to see me. 1–7. In Art. 2 according to the accepted Greek text there is an inappropriate word κατάσχονται, glorified: the essence of shame; There is an obvious error here that can easily be corrected from other texts: in Sinaisk. code. LXX stands κατεσξέθη, in Vet. Lat. and Vulg.: detentus est, detained, i.e., according to Tobit’s assumption, his son could have been detained by some difficulties in receiving money from Gabael. Likewise, in Art. 5 in accepted Greek. The text contains a completely inappropriate expression: ού μέλει μοί, glory: there is no care for me. The correct reading is again available in Sinaisk. words: ουαί μοι, and in Vet. Lat: vale mini, or in Vulg.: Heu heu me. Comrade 10:8 And his father-in-law said to him: Stay with me; I will send to your father, and they will inform him about you. Tob.10:9 But Tobiah says: No, let me go to my father. Tov.10:10 And Raguel arose and gave him Sarah his wife, and half of the property, slaves and cattle, and silver, Comrade 10:11 and, having blessed them, he sent them away and said: children! May the God of Heaven prosper you before I die. Comrade 10:12 Then he said to his daughter: Honor your father-in-law and mother-in-law; now they are your parents; I wish to hear good rumors about you. And kissed her. And Edna said to Tobiah: beloved brother, may the Lord of Heaven raise you up and grant me to see the children of Sarah my daughter, so that I may rejoice before the Lord. And so, I give you my daughter for safekeeping; don't upset her. Tob.10:13 After this Tobiah went, blessing God that He had made his way good, and blessed Raguel and Edna his wife. And they continued their journey, and they approached Nineveh. 8–13. In the accepted Greek text, equally in Slavic-Russian. transl., in Art. 11 there is a noticeable omission of words found in other Greek lists: καί ίδοιμι υμών παιδία - “that I may see your children,” as a result of which a strange thought arises, as if Raguel asked God to prosper those blessed only until his death. In general, the blessing given by Raguel and Edna to their daughter Sarah and son-in-law Tobiah (vv. 11-13) represents the most beautiful example of parental blessing to newlyweds in the Old Testament. It is not in vain that the marriage of Tobiah was and is considered by the Jews to be the perfect image of a holy and pious marriage, which is why imitating the marriage celebration of Tobiah in the arrangement of marriage is considered a rule among the Jews. The sublime biblical view of marriage, as a well-established monogamous union of a man and a woman (Gen. II-III ch.), in the book of Tobit is carried out and realized in the very life of the pious Tobit and Tobiah.
