God is rich in wise advice: sometimes he shortens, sometimes he continues the actions of His saving means; sometimes he hurries to us because he loves us; sometimes he moves away from us, again out of mercy towards us. He withdraws from us to increase His love, which flows after Him, and shows that it cannot be far from Him. He rushes to us to make it known how unbearable it is for Him to be separated from us. He moves away from us so that our limitations will more strongly desire His beauty and rush towards it, and so that for this voluntary desire (because it depends on our will to strive for the Good) He will magnify us. If our weakness moves away from Him, He hastens to us, according to His goodness. Just as He moves away from us for our benefit, so He hastens towards us in order to overtake and save us. He does not ask money (coins) from the rich, He does not demand talent from the poor. Talent acceptable from the strong (given by the strong) is also pleasing to Him; The kodrant (small coin) brought to the poor and weak is also acceptable. If a rich man brings something small as a gift to Him, He does not neglect it, but joyfully accepts the gift if he sees that the gift is brought to Him in simplicity, with love. He saw how, in extreme error, people unanimously offered their sacrifices to demons, and He caught them with His wisdom, without allowing them to even notice it. He left people in the belief that sacrifices were pleasing to Him, although His sanctuary was defiled with the blood of their victims. He endured this uncleanness, like a pure doctor who condescends to heal an unclean ulcer in order to heal a purulent scab with his purity. And the demons themselves, although unclean, do not benefit from the victims. They do not feel hunger and have no need for food, because their nature is higher than the hunger for food. They long to make man, their ruler, their slave. And the Good One, through sacrifices, kept people from pagan sacrifices. The words of God are like medicines suitable for every disease. Apparently, they are different from each other, but have mutual affinity - their own healing power. But we, through our verbal disputes, introduce differences into the Divine teachings, because of which in our mouths they contradict one another. In the mouths of people who love debate, God’s words become contradictory to one another. The color of the wave changes, but the wave itself remains unchanged; It takes on every possible color, but does not lose its nature because of the color. The wave is one and the same, and at the same time not the same; varied in color, but one in its essence. Likewise, truth is expressed in words of all kinds, but in its essence remains the same, because by its own nature it is one. Truth in itself is inseparable, and is divided only in the mouths of daring wise men. They force her to go against herself, force her to contradict herself. In true believers, the truth is calm, pure, peaceful, not damaged in the least, but in those who overthink it, it is impure; in the mouths of inquisitive researchers, from their curiosity, the truth comes into conflict with itself. To the sane listener, sound doctrines agree. A truly wise researcher is like a builder who makes the building solid with strong bonds. That spiritual architect who, from the teachings contained in Scripture, creates and erects, as it were, a pillar, which serves as a refuge for his hearing and protects him from error. He knows how to restore agreement between such passages of Scripture that seem contradictory to foolish people; reconciles them with his insight, eliminating contradictions; unites them with his understanding, reconciling what is discordant, and establishes peace between the irritated listeners, who themselves were in conflict with each other and brought into conflict the passages of Scripture that were not at all different.
