Just as at midnight, when everyone is sleeping, with a sudden great noise from heaven, terrible thunder, terrible lightning and an earthquake, all those who have done evil come into fear, and, thinking about this, begin to strike their chests, lying on their beds, because they have nowhere to run and nowhere to hide - so at that hour Christ will suddenly shine forth like the fastest lightning, and will terrify the whole earth. A trumpet will sound fearfully from heaven and awaken the dead; The heavens and their powers will be shaken; the whole earth, like the waters of the sea, will tremble at the face of His glory, because terrible fire will flow from His face, cleansing the earth from everything that defiles it. Hell will open its gates. Death will become inactive, because the dust of human nature, having heard the trumpet, will be revived. It is a wonderful thing, beloved brethren, to see how in this hour the bones of human nature, truly, in countless numbers, like many fish circling in the sea, in the blink of an eye, each will rush to its composition. The resurrected ones will cry out and say: “Glory to Him who gathered us and resurrected us according to His love for mankind!” Then the righteous will rejoice; with glory, at the meeting of the immortal Bridegroom, all those who love Him and have tried to do all His will will be caught up in the clouds. To the extent that everyone has purified his heart here, to that extent he will then see His glory; and just as he longed for Him here, so he will be satisfied with His love! At that hour, the primordial Adam, seeing a terrible multitude of peoples, will be surprised that such an innumerable multitude of people came from him alone and from his wife; and marveling, he will even more glorify the Creator God for the fact that those who came from one nature and from one creature became their heirs, both in heaven and the Kingdom, and in hell.
