And among them, that primordial commandment of the natural law was strictly observed, which Christ the Lord later recalled in the Gospel: “Whatever you will, let men do to you, and you do likewise to them” (Matthew 7:12). And therefore it is written about the tribe of Seth that it was like the angels in its righteous, chaste, temperate, meek and honest life for a long time, even up to a thousand years. This is what is written about the righteous Seth: he, partly for the sake of glorifying his face, which took place during his admiration by an angel, partly because of his wisdom and intelligence, leading heavenly movements and currents, partly for the sake of the life of his saint, like the angels, was nicknamed God by other tribes, and his tribe received the name “sons of God”: “Having seen,” it is said, “the sons of God (i.e., Seth) daughters of men (i.e. Cain), for they are good” (Gen. 6:2).
