Память святых мучениц Кириакии, Калерии и Марии

The Martyrs of Christ Kyriacia, Kaleria (or Valeria) and Maria came from the city of Caesarea in Palestine 3712. Instructed in the Christian faith by one Christian, they renounced vile idolatry sacrifices, came to Christ and were baptized. Then they settled in a certain hut, remaining in silence and praying to God that the flattery of idolatry would dissipate, that the faith of Christ would shine throughout the whole world, and thus that the persecution of Christians would cease. When they lived in this way in fasting and prayer, they were slandered before the ruler of that country by idolaters and were forced to renounce Christ and worship idols. But they did not want to do this under any circumstances. Therefore, they were mercilessly tormented by cruel tortures and in those torments they betrayed their souls into the hands of God. Caesarea Palestine was located on the eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea. In ancient times, Caesarea was the residence of Roman procurators and the center of the country's socio-political life. – In the history of the Christian Church, Caesarea in Palestine is remarkable in that here for the first time access to the Church of Christ was opened to pagans by the Apostle Peter, who baptized the centurion Cornelius (Acts 10). The last trial of the Apostle Paul took place here (Acts 25 - Acts 27). In Palestine there was another Caesarea, unlike the real one, called Philippi. It was located at the source of the Jordan.
