The holy martyr Pausilipus suffered under the emperor Hadrian 2476 at a time when the Eutropian province was ruled by the prefect Lucius 2477. First, the saint was brought to the emperor and declared himself a Christian, for which he was beaten with iron sticks. After this, he was handed over to the prefect Pretius for trial, who for a long time persuaded him to sacrifice to idols and, without having time to do this, ordered him to be put in chains and beheaded with a sword. When the holy martyr was led to execution, he broke his shackles and ran away from the guards. Pursued by them, he prayed that the Lord would accept his spirit. And it happened through the prayer of the saint: he died while fleeing. Then the Christians came and with honors, singing psalms and sacred hymns, solemnly buried his holy body. Emperor Hadrian reigned from 117 to 138. Here the Eutropian prefect is incorrectly named instead of the European one.
