Saint Paul was the bishop of the city of Plusiada in 1765 at the time when the heresy of the iconoclasts arose in the church. Seeing how the opponents of the holy icons raged against the faith of Christ, how they perverted the institutions of the holy Apostles, what disdain they showed to honest icons, what blasphemies they uttered against them, the monk came out against them as a victorious warrior of God, and, like arrows, struck them with the words of the Divine Scriptures. For this he suffered persecution, exile and all sorts of misfortunes in life. Among such valiant deeds, he gave up his spirit in peace to the Lord and moved to the heavenly Kingdom, so beloved by him, 1766. The city of Plusias, until the 7th century Prusias, founded by Hannibal, was located in Bithynia, a Roman province located in the northwestern part of Asia Minor. The Monk Paul died around 860.
