The Monk Abraham lived during the reign of Emperor Theodosius the Great 1391. The place of his birth and upbringing was the island of Cyprus 1392. He soon became famous for his great exploits and, as a man of high piety, was installed as bishop of the city of Carra in 1394. By the example of his strict deeds and divinely inspired instructions, he in a short time led his flock to a godly life. Throughout his entire stay in the priesthood, Saint Abraham never ate bread, food cooked over a fire, or vegetables boiled or pickled in water; his food was only raw vegetables, wild berries and the like. When rumors about the Monk Abraham reached Emperor Theodosius the Younger in 1395, the latter invited him to his place. The monk went to Constantinople and, after living there for a short time, gave up his soul to the Lord. His body, by order of the pious emperor, was solemnly transferred from Constantinople to the city of Carr and was buried there.
